Four Drinks of Christmas, and We’ve Gone To The Birds!

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails. The scorecard so far stands at the following:

3 French Martinis

2 Turtle Doves

1 Cranberry Pear Bellini

If anyone is interested in calculating how many calories and how much alcohol is included in the total smash, let us know as it would be an interesting series of factoids to publish. Anyhow, continuing our series today is #4: The Blackbird, which we spotted courtesy of an article on Food& This cocktail looks to be a deliciously fruity treat, meant to signify the “Four Colly Birds” in the 12 Days of Christmas. What are Colly Birds you might ask? Well, they’re simply another name for the Common Blackbird (at least, according to Wikipedia’s entry, they are).

The Blackbird

  • 4 blackberries
  • 4 lemon verbena leaves, plus 1 sprig
  • 3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
  • Ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce chilled club soda

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the blackberries with the lemon verbena leaves and Simple Syrup. Add ice and the gin and lime juice. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Stir in the club soda and garnish with the lemon verbena sprig.

Join us again tomorrow, when we present the day’s Christmas Cocktail! Keep it here, as Tim should be pushing a Tuesday Top Ten list soon!
