We celebrate a hot mid week with a cool cocktail

In honor of the upcoming Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children that opens this week and because it’s so damn hot here in SoCal, we looked high and low for a cocktail that would cool us off while reminding us of Wales, where the movie takes place. We found this little delight on the website for Penderyn Distillery in Wales. We hope they don’t mind that we borrowed it.

So, without further ado, let’s make some kick ass Mid Week Harrumph Day cocktails and slide toward the weekend…

In honor of The Magnificent Seven coming back to the theaters with an all star cast and cool new explosions and stuff, we thought we’d turn to an Old Western theme. We found this little cocktail on kellymagyarics.com and didn’t ask for permission to share it, but we hope they don’t take offense as we sit back in the office and enjoy a nice Old Fashioned in the offices and look toward sitting in the big theater with strangers and enjoying movies.

Football season is back! Time for some cooler weather and football games as we recover each Sunday after a Saturday night of cocktails and movies with friends. This last weekend, we saw our alma mater, The University of Wisconsin Badgers, beat a much more hyped team, LSU. So, we went searching for a good cocktail to add to our Wednesday Harrumph Day cocktails and we came up with this little one from Delish.com. Of course we are using it without permission.

Honoring the man who made the character Willy Wonka come to life

Cocktails and Movies Will Wonka - dreamers of dreams

We were so saddened by the loss of Gene Wilder this week. It’s hard to believe that the man who gave us Jim the Gunslinger in Blazing Saddles, Dr. Frankenstein in Young Frankenstein, Leo Bloom in The Producers and Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is now gone from our lives. Imagine if Fred Astaire actually got the role of Willy Wonka… But, it’s that iconic role for which he will always be remembered by many generations. In that spirit, we searched the web for cocktail recipes reflecting this movie and this man and found a recipe for one of the pivotal moments in the movie. Special thanks to Allrecipes.com for letting us snake this off their site.

So, without further ado, let’s make some kick ass Mid Week Harrumph Day cocktails and slide toward the weekend…

The things we do in college…

The Rum Diary

It’s getting close, cocktailers. Yes, the days, while hot and humid as hell, are growing slightly cooler and shorter every day as Fall creeps ever closer. And that means school is almost in session. For the college age kids, (and you really should be 21 or over to be on the cocktails portion of Cocktails and Movies), that means making crappy drinks with whatever you can find.

Which brings me to… me. As a junior at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a school KNOWN for its hard partying ways, I worked at a place called The Flamingo, a bar below street level which gave yours truly time to learn to make his own drinks after hours. Some of you know that I used to LOVE rum. Love, love, love rum. And Bacardi was my drink of choice. So plain light rum is great. And anyone can make a rum and coke. But, can you handle a DOUBLE RUM AND COKE? I don’t mean two shots. I mean two TYPES of rum. Well, one night after hours, and needing a caffeine AND a sugar high in order to make it to IHOP to kill a short stack before walking back home, I created the M2C (read “M Squared C”), a rum and coke with Captain Morgan’s and Malibu. With this much sugar, it’s definitely an acquired taste, but I suspect if you blend it, it would be fantastic!
