Groundhog Day for horror films leads the box office as Happy Death Day wins the weekend

Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report Happy Death Day

Two weeks into October and we have a surprise winner this Halloween season, as Happy Death Day opens EXACTLY as I suspected. People love their horror this time of year and it’s getting some surprisingly good reviews. Disappointingly, people are staying away from the brilliant, albeit long, Bladerunner 2049. I bet if Kevin Hart was in it, people would have flocked to see it. Come on, people! Elevate your taste in movies. Also disappointing was Professor Martson and the Wonder Women, which although it opened on 1200+ screens, made a disappointing $700,000. Well, let’s hand out some mimosas and see how needs a stiff double bloody mary.

Let’s take a look at the number and get into this morning as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

IT returns to the top as September goes out with a record take

cocktailsandmovies monday morning hangover report IT Pennywise and red balloon

What a September, cocktailers!  IT has made almost $300 million, making it the biggest September movie ever. And that was on a $35 million budget. After a summer of failures and movies that didn’t click with audiences, September seemed to staunch the bleeding. As for the last weekend of September, three of the top 10 movies were new releases THIS weekend. And the top there were all within a few hundred thousand dollars of each other. What an epic battle!

Let’s take a look at the number and get into this morning as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

U.S. box office shows signs of life

monday morning hangover report kingsman the golden circle

The U.S. box office is showing a few signs of life as Kingsman: The Golden Circle has a good, not great showing. Yours truly saw it over the weekend, and it was a fun ride, but not quite the winner was that the first one was. However, Ninjago looks like a bit of a disappointment when you consider the original Lego Movie and Lego Batman were so good. Bigger movies are certainly coming up in October and November and we’ll look at those this week in our Fall Movie Preview, but for now let’s get this show on the road, as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

Labor Day Weekend proves the crapy summer wasn’t a fluke

Good morning, mixers! (sorry, we didn’t mean to ruin your three day hangover)

Well, Labor Day wasn’t kind to the U.S. box office. Again. Lots of things have been happening in the world and the U.S. and movies aren’t just drawing people out to the cineplexes anymore. It doesn’t help that what the studios are putting out is basically crap. We’re just glad it’s over and we can look forward to the Fall movie season.

Let’s get this show on the road, as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

Good morning, mixers!

This Summer of 2017 can’t end fast enough for the studios. It’s been quite a misfire for everyone with a few diamonds that shone brightly, such as the wonderful Wonder Woman, the great Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the amazing Spider-man:Homecoming. But, for those three jewels, there were the House‘s, the Baywatch’s and CHiPs. Disney was the huge winner this summer, as it continued to dominate almost every aspect of the film world. At the opposite end of the spectrum was Paramount, which always does poorly in the summer months, but fell short with Baywatch and Transformers: Last Knight (they DID do well overseas, though).

Let’s get this show on the road, as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.
