Labor Day Weekend – Apparently You Worked For the Weekend…

the butler cocktails and moviesWhile the Summer Movie Season before August made a killing, the last month of summer was killed by soft studio support of features both of quality and not. It doesn’t look like it’ll get any better in the coming weeks, as we’re now back into the Off Season between Tentpole seasons, otherwise known as “award picture season.” Still, with the right movie and the right audience, a studio can make a decent amount if they can keep their budgets under control.

Another slow weekend at the box office has us wondering…is everyone enjoying too many Cocktails and forgetting to hit the Movies?

We thought we were being conservative with last weekend’s estimates, but as it turns out we were overly generous with our predictions. Apparently those last weekends of Summer are better for the cocktail end of our site than the movie end. Still, it wasn’t all bad though. Here’s last weekend’s rundown:

Did Cocktails and Movies Correctly Call the Weekend BO?

Elysium 2 cocktails and movies weekend wrap upDespite okay reviews, Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley were able to rise above the rest with Elysium this weekend to take the number one spot. But, this weekend was a real close horse race for the top three films, all of which were new debuts. Percy Jackson took the number 4 spot, making a top 4 slot for each new movie and dropping 2 Guns down to number 5.
