mother! and American Assassin try to break the Pennywise stranglehold whaddya got on tap 9.15.17

After last week’s record shattering start to IT, we’re kind of wondering why anyone new decided to show up to the dance this weekend? But, as you already know dear Mixers, when there’s a reigning champ high on the hog, there’s always at least one gunning for its defeat. And, as luck would have it, this week has two competitors in the mix for box office supremacy. One is a paperback right off of the local bookstore’s shelf, and the other is… well, kind of like that, albeit for different reasons altogether. But only one can be the victor of the newcomers, and quite possible the ruler of the box office. Let’s find out what we’ve got headed our way as we ask you every Friday, “Whaddya Got On Tap?” Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 09/08/17

Are these two films the antidote to a sick, sluggish summer box office?

Whaddya Got On Tap It Movie

How… just, how did we get to this point? The worst box office in 25 years, Mixers. The WORST since the opening of Honeymoon In Vegas, that’s how bad it was. If we were executives in town, we’d probably be self medicating to a worrisome degree at this point. (Don’t worry, studio heads, we can sit and talk with you over bloody mary’s. Just call us.)

But, at least, there are two studios with new films out this weekend, as both seem poised to bring the crowds back to the theaters, even with the NFL returning. With that enthusiasm, let’s take a look at who’s coming to town this weekend and ask you “Whaddya Got On Tap!?” Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 09/01/17

Summer 2017 Comes Ends With, What Else, A Whimper Tulip Fever

Well, we’ve made it to the end of summer. And we are probably as glad as the studios are that this horrible box office summer is over. We’ll be talking about it next week, and asking why this was the worst box office summer in 25 years. But, for now, we’ll talk about this week’s offerings. All one of them. So, this will be short.  If this box office weekend top ten reaches a total of $75 million, we’ll be surprised. (side note: close Encounters of the Third Kind DOES open in re-release in 900 theaters)

This week’s new releases remind you that Summer is almost over whaddya got on tap 8.25.17

Oh man, Mixers, can you feel it? This weekend looks like it is going to be a pretty, pretty, pretty iffy place at the weekend box office. There’s some promise on the field, but for the most part you can feel the downtime in the box office market coming. It’s as if the studios have just washed their hands of Summer 2017. It’s a good thing September has some cherry films heading our way, but we have to muscle through two weeks of “meh.”

But we’re all in this together, so let’s see what this weekend’s big picture looks like. Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 08/18/17

Summer winds down as two movie with big names casts try to win the box office title whaddya got on tap 8.18.17

Two new “guy” movies open this weekend with some big names as this lackluster, someone would say terrible, box office summer quickly moves to a close. But, Jackson/Reynolds take on Tatum/Driver/Craig are looking to change all that and add some much needed money to the summer coffers.

We’ll take a look at the Summer ’17 box office in post Labor Day, but for now, here’s hoping that it can squeeze out a couple of good weekends as we ask you, “Whaddya Got On Tap?”
