Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails #5: Irish Gold

by Tim Barley

On the fifth day of my Christmas, my bartender gave to me…

Cocktails and Movies 12 days of Christmas Cocktails - five irish goldsI’ve flow 3/4 of the way across the country to find myself in Mid-Michigan for Christmas, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop bringing cocktails to the flock. Clearing my parents out of their kitchen and rummaging through their paltry bar has led me to walk through the snowy streets to the local supermarket and stock up on cocktail supplies! Now, back inside the balmy 68 degrees of my parents’ house, I’ve decided upon the 5th day of Christmas cocktail: Five Irish Gold (Rings).

So far, Senior Writer Mike Reyes and I have given you: Four Blackbirds, Three French Martinis, Two Turtle Doves, a Cranberry-Pear Bellini. Today, we find ourself mid week (on Harrumph Day) and we have a hankering for a gold Irish Whiskey.

So, on the fifth day of  “Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails,” we give to you…

The Drink:

Irish Gold

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
  • 2 parts Ginger ale
  • 1/2 part peach schnapps
  • splash of orange juice
  • lime wheel for garnish

Instructions:

  • Build the whiskey, schnapps and juice in a Collins glass filled with ice.
  • Top with ginger ale.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel.

We’ll have seven more of these cocktails before taking a break for the final week of the year to recharge are batteries. No doubt a LOT of them will be warming cocktails to dispel the cold white of winter here in Michigan as I unwrap Christmas presents. But, all I really want is to grow this thing into something with which we can capture the attention of celebs, studios and restaurants and bars!
