Cocktails And Movie’s Flicks To Pick – 3/14/14

BY TIM BARLEY AND MIKE REYES

This week at Cocktails and Movies: Cars, Cat Fights, and Criminals & Consierges!

Cocktails and Movies Flicks to Pick 3.14.14Hey Mixers! Happy Friday to you one and all. Last weekend saw set ups and upsets as Son of God managed a miracle, rising to a second place finish. Sorry, Jesus. Today’s audiences pray to the altar that is Liam Neeson, who  gave himself another hyperbolic nickname as Non Stop proved to be exactly as the title said (at least in its box office placing… the reviews have been less than forgiving). It wasn’t a very challenging weekend, but it was an effective victory for two films that knew their audience.

This weekend is going to be just a little bit harder to top though. On a scale of one to ten, we’re going to wager a guess that this weekend is going to be a 300. That is, if our audiences don’t go to the Dog. Pun-(ishment) aside, it’s time to chart the weekend and sail into our Flicks to Pick.

single-moms-club cocktails and moviesTyler Perry’s Single Mom’s Club

Rating: PG-13
Run Time:   minutes

Our Take: Normally, singles moms would peak our interest (or at least Tim’s). But, Tyler Perry isn’t really the movie that drives Cocktails and Movies… Look for this to make it into the top three this week.

grand budapest hotel cocktails and moviesThe Grand Budapest Hotel
Distributor:
Fox Searchlight
Starring: Ralph Fiennes
Director: Wes Anderson
Rating: R
Run Time:  99 minutes

Official Synopsis: The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

Our Take: Some people don’t care for Wes Anderson’s oeuvre. But, we do. This is the type of movie that works very well with some stiff cocktails and just sitting back and being rewarded with brilliant performances by a huge cast!

Greece seized its glory with a #1 weekend for 300: Rise of an Empire. But can Elbow Grease beat Greased Gladiators? Not a bad weekend, but it is still a March weekend. Maybe this week’s pickings will push the numbers up to more exciting altitudes? Only one way to find out! But first, let’s serve up our office picks:

Mike’s Pick: Need For Speed

I’ve seen it, I loved it, and you should too!

Tim’s Pick: Grand Budapest Hotel

It’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend and that makes it tough for anyone in this office to get anything done… But, I’m going to find this film this weekend. I swear to god…
