Cocktails and Movies Holiday Cocktail #13: Hot Buttered Rum

Another prime cocktail choice for the literate inebriates out there.

The other day, while I was in the checkout line over at my local Target, I found a cocktail manual (simply entitled Cocktail Recipes) published by Pilsbury’s cook book division. I figured I’d give it a buy and see what sorts of tips and tactics it had within its very covers. While it’s no Schiller’s Liquor Bar collection, it’s a handy introductory guide into the world of mixing, particularly if you’re starting out as a party host. A couple concoctions stood out in my mind, and one of them was an old stand-by that always helps keep the cheeks rosy during those cold winter months. Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients:
2 oz. rum (preferably something dark, like say The Kraken Black Spiced Rum)
1 tsp packed brown sugar
3/4 – 1 cup boiling water or hot milk
2 tsp butter
Ground nutmeg

Instructions:
Combine rum and sugar in warm Irish coffee glass or mug. Stir in boiling water or hot milk. Float Butter on top and sprinkle with Nutmeg.
