Cocktails and Movies Holiday Cocktails #17: Holiday Milk Punch

by Tim Barley

A perfect recipe for  you to warm up with and share a Christmas cookie with someone

cocktails and movies milk punchAs we near the “12 Days of Christmas” cocktail section of our “30 Days of Cocktails,” we look for a few cocktails with liquors that we haven’t used yet. We’ve got quite a few rums and a few whiskeys and this week we’ve been working the heck out of the agave plant. So, today I’m turning the attention to the brandy section of the office bar. Senior writer Mike Reyes has his Schiller’s Bar Guide. As for me, I just mix up what is available. (Kind of the way I cook, too) But, with brandy, it’s a bit harder for me to create recipes, so I turn to the Internet for suggestions. And this is how I came up with: Holiday Mike Punch.

So, here we go:

The Drink:

Holiday Milk Punch

A bit more involved that I’d normally like, it doesn’t seem to hard and is probably an after dinner cocktail to sit by the fire and watch a movie with that special someone. Try tonight’s “Take Out Theater” selection, “A Midnight Clear.”

Ingredients:
  • 2 tsps powdered sugar
  • 2 tsps water
  • 2 ozs brandy
  • 1 oz rum (aged)
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsps half and half (or heavy cream)
  • ice
  • ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  1. Put sugar in a small bowl. Add water, stir until sugar is dissolved. Add rum and brandy.
  2. Combine milk and cream; place in shaker with some ice. Add rum mixture and shake well. Strain into an Irish Coffee glass. Sprinkle with nutmeg and enjoy.
After those directions, it doesn’t look too hard. It actually looks quite good. I haven’t tried it with less than whole milk, so that might change the recipe a bit if you don’t drink the heavy stuff. Enjoy it and if you make it at home, send us a photo and share with us on Facebook or Twitter.
