New Movies Can’t Slow Fate. The Circle is Square

Good morning, mixers. Well, America loves the boys who drive really fast cars. Not that there was much competition this weekend.  Each of the newest movies were disappointing, despite ending up in the top five, except for Sleight, which disappointed immensely. So, we’ll give out more Cristal mimosas for the good people over at Universal. There was one big surprise (which I called last Friday), which we will get to later. But, all of this is going to change as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 arrives and will probably take everyone’s money next weekend. It’ll take ours as we host another Cocktails and Movies event, this time at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Come join us!

Let’s get this show on the road, as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

Before we get into the particulars, let’s grab a cocktail and take a look at what transpired this weekend at the box office.

  1. Fate of the Furious – $19.4 million
  2. How to Be a Latin Lover – $12 million
  3. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion  – $10.1 million
  4. The Circle – $9.3 million
  5. The Boss Baby – $9 million
  6. Beauty and the Beast – $6.4 million
  7. Going in Style – $3.5 million
  8.  Smurfs: the Lost Village – $3.3 million
  9. Gifted – $3.3 million
  10. Unforgettable – $2.3 million

Overall, it was a another very quiet weekend at the box office. And there weren’t many changes.  Of the new four new movies, Baahubali and How to Be a Latin Lover were the big winners. And so we give them our Monday Morning Hangover Cristal mimosa. The Circle was disappointing to say the least. Along with Sleight, we’re ordering double bloody mary’s for each of them. Looking at the box office for this year, it’s going to need a big Summer box office season if it’s going to be a winner. But, the summer looks good and we’ll have our Summer picks soon for you all to see what’s coming.

And don’t forget, we’ll be heading to the Cabo Wabo Cantina May 7th before heading to the TCL Mann’s Chinese theater for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
