Cocktails and Movies Trailer Tap: 12/19/13

Short movies for short attention spans…

cocktails and movies trailer tapSometimes we at Cocktails and Movies don’t have time for a whole cocktail. So we do shots and thankfully there are trailers out there for us to watch while doing shots. Every week, the studios drop new trailers for us and we do our best to watch them for you and show you the best of what’s out there.

This week, we have some good ones that Mike hunted down, Tim watched and found worthy of adding to the Trailer Tap this week.

Cocktails and Movies Trailer Tap Cheap ThrillsCheap Thrills

Release Date: 02/14/14

Concept: A man, (David Koechner) offers two down-on-their-luck guys various amounts of money throughout the night to do things to earn that money. Think The Simpsons episode where Homer becomes Mr. Burns’ “prank monkey,” but a WHOLE LOT DARKER, BLOODIER AND MEANER.

Presenation/Spoilers: The trailer doesn’t give away TOO much of the film, but rather does a great job of heightening the anticipation for this dark, dark comedy.

Anticipation Factor: Very high. Koechner looks perfectly darkly funny for this role and the whole concept seems darkly disturbing which is why it won the SXSW film festival audience award.

Cocktails and Movies Take Out Theater rob the mobRob The Mob

Studio: Millenium Entertainment

Release Date: –/–/14

Concept:  A couple targets the Mafia for heists and accidentally stumble upon something big at an underground club, a list of the crime family tree, which the Feds have been looking to find for a long time.

Presentation/Spoilers: The trailer does a great job of giving away what they find in the pocket of one of the gangsters’ pockets during robbery, so no mystery there. But, the trailer does a great job of building the tension and fun of this movie.

Anticipation Factor: Medium/high – it’s nothing that we haven’t seen in a while (The Bank Job), so it’s not new. But the cast looks good and you always want to see Andy Garcia play a gangster.

Cocktails and Movies trailer tap A Fantastic Fear of EverythingA Fantastic Fear of Everything

Studio: Universal

Release Date: 01//14 (VOD/Digital) / 02/07/14 (Theatrical)

Concept: Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent, and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in Jack’s script, his ‘big break’ rapidly turns into his ‘big breakdown’ as Jack is forced to confront his worst fears.

Presenation/Spoilers: If you’re not into Simon Pegg movies yet, you’re late for the boat. This is a perfect vehicle for him to showcase some paranoid picadillo personality traits that he has yet to share as an actor.

Anticipation Factor: Senior Cocktails and Movies writer, Mike Reyes, is dying to see this and that has raised Tim’s AF to a high factor as well.

Cocktails and Movies Trailer Tap 22 Jump Street22 Jump Street

Studio: Sony/Columbia

Release Date: 06/13/14

Concept: In the opening of the trailer, the captain mentions that no one cared that “21 Jump Street” was being rebooted, but “since it did well, it’s getting a ton of money to go again.” An insightful gag line that pretty much sums up this film sequel which Tim likes more than he liked the first one. This time it’s set in college!

Presenation/Spoilers: How can you spoil what will most likely be the same formula as the TV series/first movie?

Anticipation Factor: (for Tim?) High. (for everyone else?) probably not as high.

Studio: Warner Brothers/Paramount

Release Date: 11/7/14

Concept: Following the rebooted franchise’s first movie, this movie takes place 10 years after the end of the first movie as the humans have to fight the apes that have become the dominant life form on the planet.
