Time for our weekly mini film fest! Your West Coast lunch hour (or late afternoon entertainment on the East Coast) has arrived…

Another Tuesday is here, which means The Trailer Tap is back to slake your thirst for what’s coming soon to a theater near you! It’s our way of letting you all know what we’re excited about, and it provides you something to do if you’ve got some extra time on that lunch hour… We’ve got some interesting entries, as well as some not so interesting entries, to keep you all entertained and informed!

Let’s begin: flasks out!

lucky bastard Lucky Bastard

Studio: CAVU Pictures

Release Date: Now Playing (NY) / March 7th (LA)

Concept: Lucky Bastard is a “found footage” thriller about a porn website run by Mike (Don McManus) that invites fans to have sex with porn stars. Jay Paulson plays Dave, an eager young fan given a chance to have sex with the fabulous Ashley Saint (Betsy Rue). But everyone gets more than they bargained for in the seemingly mild-mannered Dave… with gruesome results.

Presenation/Spoilers: It’s found footage style, so you aren’t surprised by anything here, and the trailer pretty much gives away what’s going to happen.

Anticipation Factor: Meh. Could be an okay VOD, but it’s hard to get into this for many reasons.

Transcendence Transcendence (Trailer 2)

Studio: Warner Bros.

Release Date: 4/17/14

Concept: A terminally ill scientist downloads his mind into a computer. This grants him power beyond his wildest dreams, and soon he becomes unstoppable.

Presentation/Spoilers: We like this trailer a lot more than the original. It does a great job of sharing the scope of the story and the small details.

Anticipation Factor: Huge. Really can’t wait to take our big flask to this one!

the double 2014 The Double

Studio: Magnolia Pictures

Release Date: 5/9/14

Concept: A comedy centered on a man who is driven insane by the appearance of his doppleganger.

Presenation/Spoilers: Great mix of David Lynch, Wes Paul Anderson and Memento style Christopher Nolan.

Anticipation Factor: Medium/high – although it’s based on a Dostoevsky. Grain of salt…?

purge anarchy The Purge: Anarchy

Studio: Universal

Release Date: 6/20/14

Concept: A follow up to the first movie, the sequel follows a young couple works to survive on the streets after their car breaks down right as the annual purge commences.

Presenation/Spoilers: Great job of showing a city OUTSIDE the walls of a home built to withstand The Purge.

Anticipation Factor: High. It’s nice to see how much action there is on the streets during this annual event.

Tammy 2014 Tammy

Studio: New Line/Warner Bros.

Release Date: 7/2/14

Concept: After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother.

Presentation/Spoilers: Not too much here to spoil, but it’s funny as hell.

Anticipation Factor: We love Melissa McCarthy. Not everyone does. Mixed, but bordering on high.

So that’s that! Now get back to work on those TPS reports. And don’t forget the cover sheets. You DID get the memo!
