Midweek “Harrumph Day” Cocktail: The Flaming Dr. Pepper

by Tim Barley

Catch fire this week with a dangerous, blazing cocktail midweek harrumph day cocktail Blazing Saddles Campfire Beans

This week, as we celebrate’s Month of Funny and our look at the funniest movie satires, we wanted to bring you a mid week “Harrumph Day” cocktail that somehow ties into the list of our top ten satires. We shared it with you yesterday and we hoped you liked it. But, we also wanted to do something exciting this week for our “harrumph day” cocktail and, finding a bottle of 151 in the back of the cupboard, we decided to introduce fire to the bar.

So, without further ado, let’s make some kick ass Mid Week Harrumph Day cocktails and slide toward the weekend…

(As always, we have to remind you youngin’s out there that alcohol is for those over 21, which the state considers adults. As you can imagine, if they actually met some 21 year olds, including us, they would understand that the 21 year old drinking age is arbitrary at best. Still it’s the law.)

(ADDENDUM: This cocktail features flammable materials and at 21, even 51, some of you are not careful enough to play with fire. Please be careful. We take NO responsibility for your attempt at making this cocktail or trying to imbibe it)

Ingredients: Flaming Dr. Pepper 3

  • bottle of beer
  • 1/4 oz Bacardi 151 rum
  • 3/4 oz amaretto almond liqueur

It’s recommended that you use a “bland” beer, domestic or otherwise non-craft or flavored beer for this shot. A, you’ll be wasting your money and 2., it will take away from the taste.

  1. Place 1/2 of beer in a mug or pint glass.
  2. Place 3/4 oz. Amaretto into a shot glass, leaving room for the Bacardi.
  3. Float 1/4 oz. Bacardi 151 on top of the Amaretto. Do not mix it.
  4. Light the Bacardi as to set it on fire.
  5. Quickly drop the shot glass with Amaretto and Bacardi into the Draft Beer and shoot.

(This shot is dangerous as it is flammable (it’s in the name), but if you’re watching Blazing Saddles, you’re probably the type of person who can handle his liquor.
