Cocktails and Movies and Trailers, Oh My!

Cocktailsandmovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap
Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing how Star Wars: The Last Jedi took the #1 spot for the third straight week! Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share movie trailers with you. Now that the summer season is a distant image in our rear-view mirror, we have gotten a lot more movie trailers to view for this week’s The Thursday Trailer Tap

Happy New Year’s Cocktailers! We hope that you all had a wonderful Holiday Season. The beginning of the year is usually a slow time for new movie releases and even more so for new movie trailers. As most studios focus on their movies that have Award Nomination potential.  This week we may have a number of decent movie trailers and two possible stinkers. This week we have THREE trailers we are seeing for the first time and TWO new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers about a remake of a ’80s vigilante movie, the final movie of the Fifty Shades Trilogy, a bounty hunter in a post-apocalyptic world, a Freddy Krueger type villain responsible for missing children & teens, and Truth & Dare gets a gory update for today!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have FIVE new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Death Wish

Studio: Annapurna Pictures
Release Date:
March 2, 2018
Synopsis:
Dr. Paul Kersey is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence as it’s rushed into his ER until his wife and college-age daughter are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel … or a grim reaper.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This second trailer is more dramatic and serious than the first trailer which had a more comedic tone to it. This is more inline with the original that starred the late great Charles Bronson. I am not sure about the updates made to the movie/character but it still got the original’s mojo. Bruce Willis is a good choice to lead this movie but let’s hope he keeps the humor & wisecracks to a minimum. It will be interesting to see what kind of touches that Eli Roth puts on the film as well.

Fifty Shades Freed

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
February 9, 2018
Synopsis:
The third installment of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trilogy.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This reminds me of a Soap Opera but with a kinky sexual theme. I have not seen these movies but the trailers for each movie have been better than the previous ones. But, I am in the minority here because these movies do well at the Box Office. The movie seems to have a lot of interesting sub-plots but it is the acting that I find a little cheesy. The good thing is that this is the last movie in the series.

Scorched Earth

Studio: Lighthouse Pictures
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
A bounty hunter named Atticus Gage tracks down criminals in a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Anticipation Factor: LOW. This has definitely got a direct to DVD or In-Home Streaming feel to it. This movie has a lot going against it: the acting is not good and cheesy, a storyline that has been done before, and not very good action sequences. The leads and especially the villain are not that great either. And not having a good villain makes a movie like this less interesting.

Slender Man

Studio: Sony / Screen Gems
Release Date:
May 18, 2018
Synopsis:
Slender Man tells the story of a tall, thin horrifying figure with unnaturally long arms and a featureless face, who is reputed to be responsible for the haunting and disappearance of countless children and teens.

Anticipation Factor:  MEDIUM. This looks like this could be the next big horror movie hit. I love how they setup the story but do not sure the villain too much. Most movies show too much of a new villain rather that save it for the moviegoers. It has a nice combination of scary and creepy vibe to it. I can not wait to see what the next trailer shows us.

Truth Or Dare

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
April 27, 2018
Synopsis:
A harmless game of Truth or Dare among friends turns deadly when someone — or something — begins to punish those who tell a lie or refuse the dare.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Blumhouse has been on a roll with the horror movie genre and it appears this could be a hit. It is based on a game that most of us have played sometime in our lives. But, it gives it a touch of Final Destination to and It Follows to it. You can’t have a good horror movie without some good kills to it, and based on what they could show on a movie trailer, this movie has some gruesome deaths in it. I am not a fan of the goofy facial expression those possessed make but overall this could be another big horror hit of 2018.
