Cocktails and Movies and Trailers, Oh My! Thursday Trailer Tap
Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing how Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle finally knocked off Star Wars: The Last Jedi for the #1 spot! Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share movie trailers with you. Now that the summer season is a distant image in our rear-view mirror, we have gotten a lot more movie trailers to view for this week’s The Thursday Trailer Tap

The beginning of the year is usually a slow time for new movie releases and even more so for new movie trailers. The second week of 2018 is showing a little more activity than the first week. This week we may have a number of two great movie trailers, four good movie trailers and one possible stinker. This week we have TWO trailers we are seeing for the first time and FIVE new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers about the latest Marvel Studios superhero movie, parents trying to stop their kids from having sex, a sequel to the Kickboxer reboot, a woman is trained to be a Russian operative, the latest Biblical hero gets the big screen treatment, The Strangers return, and the scariest house in the US gets a movie!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have SEVEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Black Panther

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: February 16, 2018
T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am liking this final trailer for Black Panther. I am fan of the comic book character and love how the movie looks. They have a nice blend of history of the people with cutting edge technology. They have some good characters and lots of good action sequences. Like most Marvel movies though, they do seem to be lacking a great villain. They seem to have a big guy reminiscent of the villain from the original Iron Man and Ant-Man, which is a villain utilizing an upgraded version of their costume/armor. Nonetheless, it looks like Marvel Studios has their next big hit on their hands.

Studio: Universal
Release Date: April 6, 2018
Three parents try to stop their daughters from having sex on Prom night.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am surprised that this movie is a lot funnier than it’s synopsis makes it sound. At first, I was not too impressed with the children but it is their parents that are crazy funny. This is a movie that showcases how hilarious John Cena is. The antics that the parents get in to keep tabs on their children are hilarious. Let’s just hope that the children are able to hold their own as well.

Kickboxer: Retaliation

Studio: Our House Films, Head Gear Films, Metrol Technology
Release Date: January 26, 2018
One year after the events of Kickboxer: Vengeance. As he prepares for a MMA title shot, Kurt is sedated and forced to return to Thailand to fight a 6’8″ 400 lbs. beast named Mongkut. In return for the fight, Kurt will get two million dollars and his freedom back.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. It is hard to say this but this looks a lot better than the original rebooted Kickboxer: Vengeance. I say that because the first one was not very good and this one is better than that. This movie has more training and fighting sequences. The acting is just so bad but that is mostly because of the actors involved. Good fighters but not so much actors. This is definitely going to be my first guilty pleasure movie of 2018.

Red Sparrow

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: March 2, 2018
Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I liked the teaser trailer that came out late last year. But, this first really good look at the movie shows it is going to be pretty damn good. I am a big Jennifer Lawrence fan and she does not disappoint at all in this. She is quite believable as a Russian agent. I love movies where they show the training of any type of person, whether it be athlete, police, military, and in this case government operative. The movie has a great supporting cast that Jennifer can play off. This movie has all the ingredients for a great movie.

Studio: Pure Flix
Release Date: February 16, 2018
After losing the love of his life to a cruel Philistine prince, a young Hebrew with Supernatural strength defends his people, sacrificing everything to avenge his love, his people, and his God.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Over the last few years, biblical and faith-based movies have been on the rise. And I must say that I have enjoyed a number for them. I remember this biblical story of Samson from Sunday School at church. It will good to see a more modern version of this on the big screen. They have some well-known names for the supporting cast, but I wish they would have done that for the lead actor who played Samson. It still looks like it will be a good movie though.

The Strangers: Prey At Night

Studio: Aviron
Release Date: March 9, 2018
A family staying in a secluded mobile home park for the night are visited by three masked psychopaths, to test their every limit.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I was a fan of the first The Strangers movie. It’s about time they finally did a sequel. It is great that they have the look and feel of the original movie and bad guys. I love that they upped the ante on it by expanding the location from just a single home to a whole town. The movie has a number of horror cliche moments but also does a great job of making things chilling and suspenseful. I can not wait for this to hit the movie theatres as I will be there opening night.

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: February 2, 2018
Eccentric firearm heiress believes she is haunted by the souls of people killed by the Winchester repeating rifle.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am enjoying how the horror genre is getting a lot smarter which makes for a much better movie. In this case, it attracts a high caliber level actress like Helen Mirren. I love it when any kind of movie is based on real historical events/people. What adds to this movie for me is that I have been on a tour of the actual Winchester House and it is indeed not only weird but really eerie. This movie does a great job of re-creating that vibe in the movie. What I also like is that it is not just one spirit haunting the house and its occupants but lots of them. This is going to be one hell of a scary movie.
