Allure

Studio: micro_scope Production
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
A house cleaner meets a teenaged girl and convinces her to run away and live with her in secret.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it may be an interesting movie and more relevant for our time. With the rise in the amount of adult/young child inappropriate interactions of late, this could be a movie that impacts the moviegoer harder than usual. Rachel Evan Wood looks really scary good as a stalker/predator. It will be interesting to see what direction the movie goes in the third act. I can not wait to see what the next trailer shows us.

Beast Of Burden

Studio: Momentum Pictures
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
Sean Haggerty only has an hour to deliver his illegal cargo. An hour to reassure a drug cartel, a hitman, and the DEA that nothing is wrong. An hour to make sure his wife survives. And he must do it all from the cockpit of his Cessna.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like it a lot when an actor/actress tries roles so different than what they are known for. And as of late, Daniel Radcliffe has been impressing me with his diverse roles ever since he finished the Harry Potter movies. This looks like it has an interesting storyline but it’s the emotional stress in determining which of the options he will decide to choose. Will he do what’s best for his dying wife, go to jail, or maybe lose his life? That should make for an interesting movie and definitely has drawn my interest in it.

Beirut

Studio: Bleecker Street
Release Date:
April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
A U.S. diplomat flees Lebanon in 1972 after a tragic incident at his home. Ten years later, he is called back to war-torn Beirut by a CIA operative to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This could have potential to be an interesting movie. This has the pieces to be a good movie. A storyline dealing with the negotiations with terrorists for an operative while trying not to have American secrets not be revealed. Which lies the dilemma of figuring out which is more important. I like Jon Hamm and Rosalind Pike, so you got two solid actors, however you do not have the right kind of villains that moviegoers need to root against. Which may takeaway from the overall movie rating. Let us hope the next trailer helps alleviate our concern.

Braven

Studio: Saban Films
Release Date:
February 2, 2018
Synopsis:
A logger defends his family from a group of dangerous drug runners.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is a smaller release movies that most people will miss out on. By the looks of this trailer, they will be missing out on some good action sequences, butt kicking, and shootouts. This is a storyline that most moviegoers have seen some variation of. But, I am liking the fact that the good guys have to use their skills and less firepower to take out a group of heavily armed bad guys. This looks like a role that could put Jason Momoa on the path of becoming one of this generation’s action hero. I also dig Garret Dillahunt whenever he plays a bad guy, even though he is typecast as that, he does a good job and should hold his own against Momoa. This should be a bit cheesy but a lot of fun.

Breaking In

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
May 11, 2018
Synopsis:
A woman fights to protect her family during a home invasion.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I must say that I was a bit surprised by this one. At first read, I was rolling my eyes and thinking Lifetime movie. But, after watching the trailer I did a 180 on it. It starts off like a Lifetime movie, but then it turns into a pretty decent action thriller. It is interesting to see how Gabrielle Union outsmarts and takes out all the bad guys. They could have gotten a better bad guy to play opposite her, so that may be a slight downfall of the movie. Here is hoping that the next trailer continues my interest in the movie.

Cold Skin

Studio: Babieka Films
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
A young man who arrives to a remote island finds himself trapped in a battle for his own life.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I did not know what to expect from this movie. But, this definitely has some potential to be a good movie. I am loving the storyline of fighting for you life. Kind of a variation of Signs, but set in historical times and add a little bit of a zombie movie feel to it. They have some pretty cool scenes they showed in the trailer, with some good scary moments and cool action sequences. I am looking forward to what the next trailer shows us.

Flower

Studio: The Orchard
Release Date:
March 16, 2018
Synopsis:
A sexually curious teen forms an unorthodox kinship with her mentally unstable stepbrother.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am becoming more and more of a Zoey Deutch fan every movie I see. She is frickin’ hilarious, crazy, and so cute in this role. This is kind of a storyline that you would think that would not be funny but is. I laughed quite a bit watching the trailer. It will be interesting to see how Adam Scott does as the school teacher with a dark secret, as we did not get to see much of him. Looking forward to the next trailer!

Ghost Stories

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
Arch skeptic Professor Phillip Goodman embarks upon a terror-filled quest when he stumbles across a long-lost file containing details of three cases of inexplicable ‘hauntings’.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This could be the next good horror movie anthology. I like how there is the central character and his story. But, then he investigates three stories that are basically stories inside a story that affects the main story. I like how they did not reveal too much, just enough to creep you out and put a little scare into us. It will be interesting to see what the three cases are and if they connect and how.

Love, Simon

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date:
March 16, 2018
Synopsis:
Everyone deserves a great love story. But for Simon it’s complicated: no-one knows he’s gay and he doesn’t know who the anonymous classmate is that he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, scary and life-changing.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This could be the best coming-of-age movie in awhile. I am a fan of Nick Robinson, and he has done a great job of playing different types of teenagers. But, this is by far his best role yet that I have seen him in. I am glad to see the rise in gay/lesbian movies over the years and this is a kind of movie that came inspire or make it easier for teenagers to come out. This movie checks all the boxes in a coming of age movie and then some.

Summer of ‘84

Studio: Gunpowder & Sky
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
After suspecting that their police officer neighbor is a serial killer, a group of teenage friends spend their summer spying on him and gathering evidence, but as they get closer to discovering the truth, things get dangerous.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am a big fan of the 80’s and 90’s, so I may be a bit bias on movies of that time period and re-create those types of movies from that era. This movie is definitely cashing in on the Stranger Things hoopla and I am glad. This is a good first look at what we can expect from the movie. I am glad to see they are holding back on a few key things. But, let’s hope we can get a better look at things the killer does, not so much the killer but his victims. I am hoping this movie is good and not end up being a guilty pleasure of mine.

The Vanishing Of Sidney Hall

Studio: A24
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
Sidney Hall finds accidental success and unexpected love at an early age, then disappears without a trace.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. In the beginning, the storyline was reminiscent of what J.D. Salinger went through with his classic Catcher In The Rye book, but then goes into an entirely different direction. Does he disappear because of something he did, was he killed for something he did, or is he just crazy? This are all interesting questions that makes me want to see this movie.

Tully

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date:
April 20, 2018
Synopsis:
The film is about Marlo, a mother of three including a newborn, who is gifted a night nanny by her brother. Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is an interesting teaser trailer. I like how we see how difficult it is for Charlize Theron to cope with motherhood. We see how difficult her life is and how it weighs down on her. She does not get any help from her husband. But, then we are introduced to the nanny who has come to save the day. I am not a fan of the nanny, Mackenzie Davis, so let’s hope she is not the same type of character she often portrays in most of her roles. Hopefully, the next trailer will show us a little more of the film.

You Were Never Really Here

Studio: Why Not Productions
Release Date:
April 6, 2018
Synopsis:
A tormented but brutal hired gun sets out to rescue a young girl from a sex ring, only to find himself weathering a storm of violent vengeance when matters go awry.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like this latest movie trailer. Although still pretty violent, it is not as violent or dark as the first trailer that debuted. I am a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix, and from the looks of it this is a role that is best suited for his acting style. He won an award for it at the Cannes Film Festival, so I was a little bummed it did not come out for Award nomination consideration for 2017. I am pretty sure his use of a hammer and not gun makes this a movie that is going to be crazy violent. I feel like he might have a kind of relationship that Denzel had in Man On Fire. Which gives his role and the movie a more emotional kick to it and will make for more dramatic scenes. Bring on the carnage!
