A Quiet Place

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
April 6, 2018
Synopsis:
A family lives an isolated existence in utter silence, for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This latest trailer definitely explains something that bothered me about the film. It is a extraterrestrial and not a supernatural threat. I like this direction the film is taking and glad they did not show the aliens yet. I like all the precautions they are taking but wonder how everything will come together in the third act. I think that first time director John Kransinski may have a surprise hit on his hand. I am now more excited to see this film.

Annihilation

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
February 23, 2018
Synopsis:
A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don’t apply.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. The second directorial effort by Alex Garland after his debut movie Ex Machina which I loved. He definitely has a talent for writing and directing sci-fi movies. I love that we get an all-female squad because usually an all-male squad falls into the same cliche moments when investigating an alien situation. It will be interesting to see how females react to the situation. Other than that, the FX look great, the environment/animals have a fantasy look to them, and the score really adds to the suspense. I can’t wait to see this.

Avengers: Infinity War

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date:
May 4, 2018
Synopsis:
The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. There is not much to this trailer that gives away anything about the movie. This trailer is here to showcase all the heroes together in different combinations we have not seen before. Almost every single MCU hero is in this movie and it gets you excited to see what they are going to do together. I love the fact that they are saving a lot of it for the actual. I do wish I could have seen more of Thanos though. I am guessing we will see one more trailer with a look at the villains that Thanos is bringing with him.

Deadpool 2

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: May 18, 2018
Synopsis:
Wisecracking mercenary Deadpool battles ninjas, the yakuza and a pack of aggressive canines as he embarks on a new adventure.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. What in the @#$ … like Deadpool would say. We finally get our first good look of Josh Brolin as Cable. Although, he looks a lot different than his comic book character, he still looks pretty damn good and he still kicks a lot of ass. They got his most important done well though, his eye and his arm. I love the toy playing by Deadpool before we get a good look at returning characters and a good look at some of his new playmates. This movie has the original feel of the first movie but at another level in terms of action. Man oh man, the month of May is going to be awesome!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
June 22, 2018
Synopsis:
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I love what Jurassic World did to revitalize the Jurassic movie series and it looks like they are continuing that streak. The dinosaurs are the real stars of the movies and the SFX for them continue to look amazing, especially the new ferocious dinosaur that they create. I like the storyline direction they are going with having to return to save the dinosaurs. But, the one thing that I didn’t like was why do we always have to children involved in the movie. Oh well, it can’t be perfect but it’s definitely going to be one hell of a summer movie!

Life Of The Party

Studio: New Line
Release Date:
May 11, 2018
Synopsis:
When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college – landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna – now Dee Rock – embraces freedom, fun, and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am a fan of Melissa McCarthy, she always produces some great comedies. She is great at all kinds of comedies whether it be physical, sweet, or just plain raunchy. This movie reminds me a lot of the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back to School, without the millionaire angle. There is a lot of funny stuff in the trailer but they are so many different avenues for them to go since they are in college and adults. This is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
July 27, 2018
Synopsis:
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I was not too impressed with the first two movies, I liked the third one, but have really become of a fan since the 4th movie in the series. They have really taken the action sequences up to the next level every new movie. And this latest movie shows they have a lot of cool and death defying action sequences. What I really like about this movie is that this is an actual sequel and continuation of what happened in the previous movie, not just another movie with a new mission. I love the new characters they added, but I look forward to seeing everyone from the last movie back. This is going to be a long and excruciating wait for this one.

Red Sparrow

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date:
March 2, 2018
Synopsis:
Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is just basically a summarized version of what we have seen and know about in the first two trailers we have already seen. But, I’m sure to those people watching the Super Bowl, this is probably their first real look at it. I think it does a nice job of telling them what the movie is about, who she is, who trained her, and how she can get out. It will be great to see Jennifer Lawrence in a real action and violent role, because you can’t really count those Hunger Games movies. I love that she tries a lot of different roles, and this may have the potential to be a franchise series.

Skyscraper

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
July 13, 2018
Synopsis:
Framed and on the run, a former FBI agent must save his family from a blazing fire in the world’s tallest building.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. The king of Action Movies, Dwayne Johnson, is back with his latest movie for summer. This is a good teaser trailer that definitely gets the blood pumping and the heart racing. A quick set-up about his family and what he needs to do to save them before we get scene after scene of action sequences, including one crazy leap from building to building. His movies will probably never win an Oscar for his acting but his movies always seem to deliver.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date:
May 25, 2018
Synopsis:
During an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. Our first look at the latest A Star Wars Story movie depicting the early years of Han Solo before A New Hope did not disappoint at all. I was very worried with all the director changes toward the end of shooting and the lengthy re-shoots for new scenes. But, we get a beautiful looking and visually exciting movie trailer. This movie has me more excited than all the latest Star Wars movies including the amazing Rogue One. Still not 1oo% sold on Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo even though I liked his acting in other movies. Loved seeing Chewie and Lando, as well as the new characters including Woody Harrelson as Han’s mentor. The SFX are amazing, the locations are a thing of beauty, the costumers and creatures are wonderful, but it’s seeing the Falcon being chased by a Star Destroyer and Tie-Fighters that made me lose my mind. Can it be Memorial Day already!

The Titan

Studio: Voltage Pictures
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
A military family takes part in a ground-breaking experiment of genetic evolution and space exploration.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This movie trailer very slowly piqued my interest. It definitely has a Species vibe to it but with a different twist to it. I had never ever thought about enhancing humans in order to explore space or settle on new planets. I love it when you have this science gone wrong sub-plot. The enhance new look of the experimented human wasn’t all that but their enhancement were kind of cool. This could maybe possibly be an interesting and cool movie.
