10×10

Studio: Unstoppable Entertainment
Release Date: April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
Lewis is an outwardly ordinary guy, but in reality he is hiding an obsession – revenge – against Cathy. Lewis kidnaps Cathy in broad daylight and takes her to his home, where he locks her in a soundproof cell and attempt to extract a dark secret from her past.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. A slight twist on a scenario that we have seen before. In this version, the kidnapper is the good guy trying to get justice and the kidnapped is more dangerous than he thought. Not only will this have a lot of physicality to it but a psychological aspect as well. I am a fan of Luke Evans and it’s nice to see him branch out a bit. Also, a fan of Kelly Reilly and it’s good to see her get a nice lead role even if it she has a villain.

A Quiet Place

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: April 6, 2018
Synopsis:
A family lives an isolated existence in utter silence, for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound.

Anticipation Factor:  MEDIUM-HIGH. The Super Bowl trailer and this most recent International trailer have definitely piqued my interest. Initially, I thought the movie was just ok because of it’s supernatural theme. Now we know the theme is extraterrestrial, it has definitely made the film more interesting and suspenseful. It is looking like John Krasinski has a nice directorial follow-up to The Hollars.

Bent

Studio: AMBI Group, Grindstone Entertainment Group, Primary Wave Entertainment
Release Date: March 9, 2018
Synopsis:
On his latest private investigation, a shamed former cop connects a murder case to a government conspiracy involving rogue agents from a top spy agency.

Anticipation Factor: LOW. This movie definitely has the smell of B-movie to it even though there are some well-known celebrities in it. This is a type of movie that is better situated for the 90’s. It actually slightly reminds me of the Bruce Willis movie Striking Distance. Despite all that, it does have some good action sequence and may surprise us. A lot of that depends on how they handle the bad guys and the reveal.

Guernsey

Studio: Blueprint Pictures
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island in the aftermath of World War II when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it could be a pretty good independent movie that not many people will get a chance to see. I love movies based on books and also have been enjoying movies the last few years with Nazis as the antagonists. It appears the storyline will have lots of drama and emotion to it. I like the ensemble cast assembled headed by the talented Lily James, who has been on a streak the last few years with her roles. Hopefully, we will get a release date for this movie soon.

I  Feel Pretty

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
A head injury causes a woman to develop an extraordinary amount of confidence and believes she’s drop-dead gorgeous.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is a role that is definitely tailor-made for Amy Schumer. I do not want to sound mean in saying she has the physical look and lack of beauty that is required for the role. But, it is her comedic and acting skills that really pulls off her believe-ability that she is a 10. Although the movie reminds me of Shallow Hal, it does have the potential to be funny. It may take a beating in the media due to it’s political incorrectness and may be considered a step back for the women’s movement going on.

Josie

Studio: Screen Media Films
Release Date: March 16, 2018
Synopsis:
Hank, a solitary man living a dull existence in the sleepy, Southern town raises eyebrows when he develops a questionable relationship with Josie, a recently transplanted high school student.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This has definitely got straight to streaming written all over it. The plot of the movie seems somewhat interesting. I think it’s the GOT fans of Sophie Turner that the studio hopes will draw the moviegoers to it. I am not a fan of her on the show or in any of her movie roles. So for me, it’s Dylan McDermott that might get me into the theatre seat. However, I need the next trailer to show me something worth going to as well.

Marrowbone

Studio: Lionsgate International
Release Date: April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
A young man and his three younger siblings, who have kept secret the death of their beloved mother in order to remain together, are plagued by a sinister presence in the sprawling manor in which they live.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am loving how the movie horror genre has been reinvigorated the last few years. We have had some great horror movies come out. But, for me I enjoy the ones where the protagonists are somewhat isolated and even more so when they are in different time periods. This movie also has the bonus of having children and teens been terrorized. I love how they don’t show too much, but they give you enough to give you chills and creep you out. I can’t wait to see another trailer for this.

Overboard

Studio: Pantelion
Release Date: April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
A spoiled, wealthy yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. A remake of the 1987 comedy.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I am so fatigued on all the movie remakes that are coming out, especially the comedy ones. This trailer seem bland and does not have the magic of the original with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Perhaps, it could do with the fact that they were a couple. I do have the faintest of hope for this movie as I do enjoy watching Eugenio Derbez in comedies.

Rampage

Studio: Warner Bros. / New Line
Release Date: April 20, 2018
Synopsis:
Based on the classic 1980s video game featuring apes and monsters destroying cities.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. The Box Office King of Action Movies is back with his next potential blockbuster hit. I like the fact this the latest trailer is focused on George. It also proves my initial thought that he will be the real hero of the movie. The SFX look pretty good and there are some cool action sequences and mayhem that you expect in a Dwayne Johnson film. Also, I am a fan of the video game so I am really looking forward to it.

The Breaker Uppers

Studio: Piki Films
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
Two women cynical in love, set up an agency to break couples up as a way to avoid letting go and moving on with their lives.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I have been enjoying the movies that have been coming out of New Zealand the last few years. They seem to have a different sense of humor that I have come to really enjoy. It has an interesting and funny plot that definitely takes a left turn when love rears it’s head. I can not wait to see another trailer and I hope they finalize a release date soon.

Uncle Drew

Studio: Lionsgate / Summit
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Rucker Classic street ball tournament in Harlem, Dax is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his longtime rival. Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend UNCLE DREW and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew’s old basketball squad and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I can not believe that this movie sprung forth from a Pepsi commercial. The movie reminds me of a comedic version of Above The Rim with former NBA stars with very bad prosthetic make-up. Parts of the movie look funny but most of it just looks pretty bad. I am torn between watching it because I was a fan of those NBA stars in it. Hopefully, the next trailer will help me decide which way to lean.

Venom

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: October 5, 2018
Synopsis:
Unknown

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Initially, I was super-excited to hear that Tom Hardy was headlining Venom. Then I heard they were not going to use the origin story that was tied into Spider-Man. Ok. And now you give me a trailer that only shows the alien symbiote and not Venom himself. I do like the scientific angle they are using but they definitely need to give us a lot more in their next trailer.
