Cocktailsandmovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap

Welcome to CocktailsandMovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap!

Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing about how good Split is or it’s crazy twist? Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share something new with you.

The Super Bowl always brings out movie trailers for the big Summer movies. This year is no exception, however they were often short and it was for movies that we have seen trailers for already. Which is good for me still, since the first five weeks of 2017 have given us only a few movie trailers to review every week. This week we have a lot of trailers for you. This week we have eight movies we are seeing movie trailers for the first time and nine movie we have previewed for you already.

We have the health spa with a sinister twist, a waitress deals with the loss of her boyfriend and hate issues for who he/she is. Arnold is back as a grieving father looking for an apology, the latest from our favorite lifeguards, an anime classic gets the live-action treatment, our favorite Guardians are back with some new friends, a family trying to survive in an end of the world environment, scientist find proof of alien life but will they survive to tell anyone, our favorite clawed mutant in his last movie, Jack Sparrow is back, young students battle an evil force at boarding school, the Fast & Furious movies get a big twist, a mental institute may have ulterior motives than healing its patients, the newest LEGO movie, two spouses find new loves but also find each other again, a young man tries to better his standing in life through his love for golf, and our favorite robots are back!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back.  So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have SEVENTEEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

A Cure For Wellness  acureforwellness(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
February 17, 2017
Synopsis:
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. It is good they cut back on the creepy and slightly grotesque images that have been part of the previous trailers. This trailer does have some good suspenseful and chilling moments still. The storyline looks like we are going to be in for some crazy things, no pun intended.

Aftermath  Aftermath

Studio: EFO Films
Release Date: April 7, 2017
Synopsis:
Based on the airline accident that occurred in July of 2002 and on the events that took place 478 days later.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have been a big Ah-nuld fan since I first saw The Terminator. All the years have not been good to him movie-wise. He has done a lot of smaller supporting roles that I have enjoyed. I love it when an actor takes a chance and tries another genre they are known for. He did a great job in a small movie called Maggie where he showed another side of himself. This is looking a lot better than the similar family lost movie he did called Collateral Damage. A good supporting cast and less talking for Ah-nuld gives me hope this movie might be good.

Baywatch  (Super Bowl Trailer)baywatch

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
May 26, 2017
Synopsis:
Two unlikely prospective lifeguards vie for jobs alongside the buff bodies who patrol a beach in California.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. There was not much new in this trailer than I had seen before, just basically a re-edit trailer. Despite that, I am still very interested in seeing this movie. Dwayne Johnson is killing it with almost every movie he does the last few years. That goes the same for Zac Efron, who has found a calling in these R-rated comedies he has been doing the last two yearsMuch like the 21 Jump Street movies, this has the potential to be the next big comedy franchise.

Ghost In The Shell  GhostInTheShellA(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
March 31, 2017
Synopsis:
A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This trailer also had very little new footage, except for that scene at the end. Regardless of that, I am already looking forward to seeing this. Despite the changing of the lead heroine’s race, this movie is very faithful to the anime classic. The anime movie is translated to live-action very well. Lots of great visuals, costumes, and sets. Not to mention all the great action sequences we will be in store for. I think Scarlett Johansson is a great choice for The Major. She is kind of a mash-up between her Black Widow and Under The Skin character.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2  GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2A(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date:
May 5, 2017
Synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. This is one of the Top 5 movies I am looking forward to this summer. This is how you do a Super Bowl movie trailer. There was quite a number of new footage showcasing all the Guardians as well the new members of the team. The movie has the same feel to it as the first and it is good to know they have the same kind of humor and team chemistry that made the first one great.

It Comes At Night  ItComesAtNight

Studio: Animal Kingdom
Release Date: August 25, 2017
Synopsis:
Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, a man has established a tenuous domestic order with his wife and son, but this will soon be put to test when a desperate young family arrives seeking refuge.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it will be a great creepy and suspenseful apocalyptic movie thriller. The horror genre has been churning out some good little movies the last few years, and this could be the next big hit. This teaser gives enough suspense and tension without revealing too much about what “IT” is. I love this end of the world kind of movies, and along with a decent cast headed by Joel Edgerton (one of my fave Aussies). I am really looking forward to the first full trailer.

Life  LifeA(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date:
March 24, 2017
Synopsis:
An international space crew discovers life on Mars.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks a present day version of Alien. The cast for this is top-notch, the SFX & VFX are outstanding, as are the sets. I am glad to see that we are seeing very little of the alien life form, much like they did with Alien or Jaws. This is a movie I would normally being showing more love toward, but I can’t help feeling like it is a remake of Alien. I am hoping the hero is not named Rip. Lol.

Logan  LoganA(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
March 3, 2017
Synopsis:
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. A few new scenes in the forest but nothing else much in this latest trailer. It is good to see that we are going to be in for a good R-rated movie. The action sequences look great, the Reavers (villains) are excellent, but I think a lot of the movie is going to be how well Logan, Professor X and the little girl will mesh. And from what I have seen thus far, it looks like that might be one of the best parts of it. Can’t it be March already!

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales  PiratesOfTheCaribbeanDeadMenTellNoTalesA(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date:
May 26, 2017
Synopsis:
Captain Jack Sparrow searches for the trident of Poseidon.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. We finally get our first look at Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, as well as the return of Orlando Bloom‘s Will Turner. I am loving the return of the movie to it’s original Pirates Of The Caribbean movie vibe. The SFX for this one looks outstanding, and the action sequences look amazing. Hopefully we will get to see more interactions between characters in the next trailer.

The Blackcoat’s Daughter   TheBlackcoatsDaughter

Studio: Paris Film
Release Date:
March 31, 2017
Synopsis:
Two girls must battle a mysterious evil force when they get left behind at their boarding school over winter break.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This movie has some potential. It looks like it will be a suspenseful and chilling horror movie. It definitely got my interest, as I am trying to figure out who the good people are and what & where the evil force resides. I think a better editing of the next trailer would be beneficial to it.

The Fate Of The Furious  thefateofthefurious(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
April 14, 2017
Synopsis:
When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. When I heard that there were going to do another Fast & Furious movie, I was not that interested as I thought the last one was not that good. But, I am enjoying this Dominic turning on his family. There was some new footage that I enjoyed with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham having to work together. This could bring some interesting new team chemistry and provide some interesting fireworks. As usual the action sequences are what makes these movie good, and they do not disappoint their fans at all.

The Institute  TheInstitute

Studio: Campbell Grobman Films
Release Date: March 3, 2017
Synopsis:
In 19th century Baltimore, a girl stricken with grief from her parents’ untimely death, voluntarily checks herself into the Rosewood Institute, and is subjected to bizarre and increasingly violent pseudo-scientific experiments in personality modification, brainwashing and mind control, she must escape the clutches of the Rosewood and exact her revenge.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This reminds me a bit of A Cure For Wellness but set in 19th Century America. It does not look as good as that movie but it does have some weirdness to it. Although not a well put together film, it does have a pretty good and well-known cast headed by the hardest working actor at the moment, James Franco. I have seen a number of his movies last year, and he has this and another one as well coming out shortly. I am hoping they put together a better movie trailer to get audiences interest in it. Otherwise, it may do as well as Franco’s other smaller independent movies.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie  TheLEGONinjagoMovie

Studio: Animal Logic
Release Date: September 22, 2017
Synopsis:
Six young ninjas Lloyd, Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane and Nya are tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am starting to become a fan of these LEGO movies that have been coming out. It not only has a different animation style to it because of the LEGO-look. But they are pretty funny, have good stories, good amount of action to them, and are often enjoyed by adults as well as kids. I never saw the Ninjago animated movies before but this looks pretty darn good. I am definitely going to be seeing this when it comes out.

Transformers: The Last Knight  TransformersTheLastKnightA(Super Bowl Trailer)

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
June 23, 2017
Synopsis:
Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. A few new scenes in this trailer, but nothing to get that excited about. I liked the fight between Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, but it would be great to get a better look at the characters from the King Arthur legend that connects with this new movie. Does it not look good or are they trying to save it for the movie. Other than that, the SFX look great, as do the Autobots. A good look at the bad guys, especially Megatron, would be great too.

For our Mixers with a more eclectic film palette, here’s a smaller movie you might miss out on.  This is something we here at CocktailsandMovies.com we like to call … an extra sip!

A Fantastic Woman   SorryNoPictureAvailable

Studio: Fabula
Release Date:
TBA
Synopsis:
Marina, a waitress who moonlights as a nightclub singer, is bowled over by the death of her older boyfriend.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I have seen a few good movies that deal with gay and/or transgender issues. The one problem is that most of them are often foreign films, which not everyone will know about or get a chance to see. This is the kind of movie that “An Extra Sip” was created for. This has a good story, chock full of lots of emotion and drama. The lead actress does a great acting job and shows lots of range. It will be interesting to see how the movie ends and what can be learn from it.

The Lovers  TheLovers

Studio: A24
Release Date: May 5, 2017
Synopsis:
Debra Winger and Tracy Letts play a long-married, dispassionate couple who are both in the midst of serious affairs. But on the brink of calling it quits, a spark between them suddenly reignites, leading them into an impulsive romance.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This is one of the reasons why I love watching these smaller independent movies. This movie has a good, funny, and maybe relevant story that should appeal to a number of older people in marriages and/or long-term relationships. I got a kick out of the idea of them finding new love but then falling back in love. It is good to see Debra Winger back in a lead role, she has still got it. I am hoping that they ramp up the promotion for this one so more people know about it.

Tommy’s Honour  TommysHonour

Studio: Gutta Percha Productions
Release Date: April 14, 2017
Synopsis:
In every generation, a torch passes from father to son. And that timeless dynamic is the beating heart of Tommy’s Honour – an intimate, powerfully moving tale of the real-life founders of the modern game of golf.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love me movies that are based on real-people and events. This has a similar storyline as one of my favorite golf movies, The Greatest Game Ever Played. It does go in quite a different direction than that movie which is something that appeals to me. I love a movie about a someone who tries to change and/or better themselves or their families. This is looking like it is going to have a great amount of family drama, emotion, and feel good moments.
