All Eyez On Me    alleyezonme

Studio: Lionsgate / Summit
Release Date: June 16, 2017
Synopsis:
A chronicle of the life of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love me a good bio-pic, especially when it’s based on a musician that I liked a lot. This movie looks like it will be as good as or maybe even better than Straight Outta Compton. I love the timeline from early childhood to rap superstar and to his too soon demise. This movie will show the things that influence his beliefs, and his music. I can’t wait.

Beach Rats   BeachRats

Studio: Cinereach
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
An aimless teenager on the outer edges of Brooklyn struggles to escape his bleak home life and navigate questions of self-identity, as he balances his time between his delinquent friends, a potential new girlfriend, and older men he meets online.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This is a teaser trailer, so there is not too much going on to work with. Going by the synopsis it seems to have a Jersey Shore vibe to it. But, going by the teaser trailer it looks to have a more sexual vibe to it. We will have to wait for a full trailer to see more about what to expect from the movie.

Before I Fall   BeforeIFall

Studio: Open Road Films
Release Date: March 3, 2017
Synopsis:
February 12 is just another day in Sam’s charmed life until it turns out to be her last. Stuck reliving her last day over one inexplicable week, Sam untangles the mystery around her death and discovers everything she’s in danger of losing.

Anticipation Factor:MEDIUM-HIGH. I am liking this teenage female updated version of Groundhog’s Day. A young woman has different priorities and concerns that an older man, so it will be quite interesting to see what she goes through. Add to the fact that this movie is headlined by Zoey Deutch, whose last three movie roles I have enjoyed.

Bitter Harvest   BitterHarvest

Studio: Roadside Attractions
Release Date: February 24, 2017
Synopsis:
Set between the two World Wars and based on true historical events, BITTER HARVEST conveys the untold story of the Holodomor, the genocidal famine engineered by the tyrant Joseph Stalin. The film displays a powerful tale of love, honour, rebellion and survival at a time when Ukraine was forced to adjust to the horrifying territorial ambitions of the burgeoning Soviet Union.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am fan of movies based on historical events, as it’s like a history book coming to life. There have been an increasing number of movies based on Nazi Germany and Russia as villains lately. This looks to be a good one, as it depicts one of the more horrifying events that Stalin did. It has a lot of drama and emotion, plus it has a nice little romance inter-weaved throughout.

Everything, Everything    EverythingEverything

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: May 19, 2017
Synopsis:
A teenager who’s lived a sheltered life because she’s allergic to everything, falls for the boy who moves in next door.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I liked this trailer more than I thought I would. A few years ago, a young adult romance movie would have gotten ridiculed by me. But, there have been a number of great ones that I have enjoyed lately. This movie has two good leads in Amandla Stenberg & Nick Robinson. Despite the fact that is a storyline I have seen before. Their performance are cute but also keeps my intention. This is going to be chock full of emotion and drama in particular. It will be interesting to see how it ends, as it could either way and be good or great.

Ghost In The Shell    ghostintheshella

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
March 31, 2017
Synopsis:
A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I have been eagerly awaiting any and all trailers for this one. I remember first seeing the anime classic this is based on when it first came out. And from what I have seen thus far, they are doing an awesome job bringing it to life. I was a little miffed with the casting of Scarlett Johansson, but she is kicking some serious butt in the trailer. The action sequences, the set designs, the SFX and the VFX are top-notch. I can not wait for this movie to get here already!

Girls Trip  (Red-band trailer)GirlsTrip

Studio: Universal
Release Date: July 21, 2017
Synopsis:
When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I thought it would just going to be another movie where a group of friends get together and get crazy. It is, but these ladies bring another dynamic to it. They do have the typical members of a group of friends, but their antics are hilarious especially Tiffany Haddish. This could be her breakout role a la Zach from The Hangover. From what I have seen this is going to be a good raunchy R-rated comedy, and probably better than Bad Moms.

Isolation    Isolation

Studio: Hollywood Media Bridge
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
Inspired by the true events of a couple vacationing on a remote island in the Bahamas who are hunted by a group of modern-day pirates, after their identities and their lives.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This movie has got straight-to-DVD or Home Streaming service written all over it. I am a big fan of movies based on true events, but this does not seem interesting or well done at all. The acting seems pretty cheesy and all the things seem quite predictable. The shark sequence does seem pretty good though, but everything else not so much.

Life    LifeA

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date:
March 24, 2017
Synopsis:
An international space crew discovers life on Mars.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This first teaser trailer was nice and it seem to show that the movie was like an updated remake of the original Alien movie. However, this trailer shows more of the astronauts, their mission, and the alien life force. Plus, it shows not that not only are they battling the alien but trying to prevent their vessel from crashing to Earth. The SFX, the VFX, and the set designs are amazing, and coupled with this very diverse and talented supporting cast … I think this will be a great movie.

Personal Shopper     PersonalShopperA

Studio: IFC
Release Date:
March 10, 2017
Synopsis:
Revolves around a ghost story that takes place in the fashion underworld of Paris.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. Two years ago, I would have shown no interest in a Kristen Stewart movie. But, she has put in some solid acting performances in a wide range of roles. At first glance, the movie seems just ok but once we learn of the pact she made with her recently deceased brother things get good fast. I love the suspense and chills we get from this trailer. There are different ways they can go with the story, and it will be interesting to see what direction is does go. Any way they go, I am sure we won’t be disappointed one bit.

The Bad Batch    TheBadBatch

Studio: Human Stew Factory
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
A dystopian love story in a Texas wasteland and set in a community of cannibals.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like a pretty decent post-Apocalyptic movie. It has a good supporting cast in Keanu Reeves, Jason Mamoa, and a few others. However, the movie is headlined by a first time lead actress in Suki Waterhouse, which could be it’s downfall. I hope a new trailer gives us a better idea of what to expect from it.

The Beguiled    TheBeguiled

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: June 23, 2017
Synopsis:
While imprisoned in a Confederate girls’ boarding school, an injured Union soldier cons his way into each of the lonely women’s hearts, causing them to turn on each other, and eventually, on him.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it’s going to be a good remake of the original movie starring Clint Eastwood. The only question I have it will it be a straight remake or will it differ from the original. They have a great choice with Colin Farrell as the handsome Union soldier, he is going to break hearts but also has a dark side to him. There are three great choices in Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning as the three main female leads. The will provide good acting but most importantly lots of great drama and jealousy.

The Circle   thecircle

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date: April 28, 2017
Synopsis:
A woman lands a job at a powerful tech company called the Circle, where she becomes involved with a mysterious man.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. The first teaser trailer definitely piqued my interest in the movie. But, it’s this first full trailer that gets me excited. I love the choice of Tom Hanks, as the big bad, a complete 180 on his Robert Langdon character. But, it is the choice of Emma Watson, as the heroine, that I’m looking forward to the most. She reminds me a little of the character that Sandra Bullock played in The Net. There are some good supporting characters to help both of them. The storyline is applicable to how the internet and social media is right now. Which gives it another level of suspense and drama.

The Sense Of An Ending     TheSenseOfAnEnding

Studio: Origin Pictures
Release Date: March 10, 2017
Synopsis:
A man becomes haunted by his past and is presented with a mysterious legacy that causes him to re-think his current situation in life.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like this kind of movie, where a person looks back at a significant event of their past. The outcome it had on their life and the affects it had on family and/or friends at that time. They have a pretty good cast, particularly the older versions of themselves in Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling. There is a lot of emotion and drama in both their young and older selves, which should provide for some great performances. The storyline appears to be well-done with a few life lessons for us viewers to consider and ponder in our lives.

The Ticket    TheTicket

Studio: BCDF Pictures
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A blind man who regains his vision finds himself becoming metaphorically blinded by his obsession for the superficial.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I typically enjoy the kind of movie where one rises to the top but falls from grace. But, I am not to sure about this movie for some reason. The lead actor Dan Stevens looks up to the task, and his supporting cast seems good enough. I am not sure if is because it has to do with a person losing his disability that bothers me. As I know most disable peoples I know would not act this way. It will be interest to see if he learns or not learns his lesson at the end.

Unlocked    Unlocked

Studio: Bloom
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A CIA interrogator is lured into a ruse that puts London at risk of a biological attack.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it will be a nice little spy action thriller. I have loved Noomi Rapace ever since the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I’m glad she finally got another good movie to shine in, as she has not another big hit for her. The storyline is going to be entertaining and suspenseful, and the supporting cast is amazing. It will be great to see all the twists and turns that a kind of movie like this is known for.

For our mixers with a more eclectic film palette, here’s a smaller movie you might miss out on.  This is something we here at CocktailsandMovies.com like to call … an extra sip!

In Search Of Israeli Cuisine     InSearchOfIsraeliCuisine

Studio: Florentine Films
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A portrait of the Israeli people told through food. We shot in fine restaurants, in home kitchens, wineries, cheese makers, on the street and much more. Americans see Israelis and Palestinians as always in conflict. Those are not the people of Israel for the most part. “The Search for Israeli Cuisine” will show the 70+ cultures that make up the Israeli people, each with wonderful and unique food traditions. Israel has one of the hottest food scenes in the world. Getting into restaurants in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is as difficult as New York or San Francisco.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love documentaries about food. I am not a foodie but for some reason when I see a documentary like this I got hungry, even though I would not eat most of the foods I do see. Kinda weird huh? In addition to all the beautiful looking foods and dishes, we get to learn a little more about the Israeli, and the various cultures and people that make up the region. I’m sure it will be an eye-opener as well as an appetite-inducing experience.

The Women’s Balcony     TheWomensBalcony

Studio: Pie Films
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A bar mitzvah mishap causes a major rift in a devout Orthodox community in Jerusalem.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I do enjoy me a good foreign film, especially when you get to learn more about a country’s people, history, culture, or in this case religion. Often times when you deal with a religious subject matter, it often times is a pretty serious movie. However, I am liking the injection of comedy that the trailer is showcasing. Couple that with the women vs. men sub-plot, and I think you have the ingredients for an entertaining movie.
