Action Point

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
June 1, 2018
Synopsis:
A daredevil designs and operates his own theme park with his friends.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I am a big fan of both Jackass the TV series and the movies. This movie tries to bring that magic back in this movie, but it seems to miss the mark. There are some crazy antics and definite cringe-worthy moments but the acting seems pretty bad. What they do does not translate well to a movie format but best utilized in multiple short moments. Despite that, I am still looking forward to seeing the Jackass stars back on the big screen.

An Ordinary Man

Studio: Saban Films
Release Date: April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
A war criminal in hiding forms a relationship with his only connection to the outside world – his maid.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like an intense but intriguing movie. I am a big Ben Kingsley fan and he looks great in this role. It will be interesting to see how the relationship with the maid unfolds. It will be interesting to see what direction the third act goes. I can’t wait to see what the next trailer shows us.

Avengers: Infinity War

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: April 27, 2018
Synopsis:
The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. This is a movie that MCU fans have been waiting for years. All the movies have been steering us to this moment and from what I’ve seen we won’t be disappointed. I am loving all the different team-ups. So many different personalities is going to be a  lot of fun to watch. There are a lot of great action sequences with great special FX. A lot of moments that make your jaw drop. But, it is Thanos, his Black Order, and his army that will give our heroes their greatest challenge. And things will never be the same after.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: July 13, 2018
Synopsis:
Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. The rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist going along. But once they leave port, romance arises when Dracula meets the mysterious ship Captain, Ericka. Now it’s Mavis’ turn to play the overprotective parent, keeping her dad and Ericka apart. Little do they know that his “too good to be true” love interest is actually a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, ancient nemesis to Dracula and all other monsters.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I can not believe this animated series is still alive and kicking. I did not think any of the previous two movies were all that interesting. Which makes me wonder how this was ever green-lighted for the movie screen instead of straight to DVD/Blu-ray. The animation is not that impressive and the laughs/gags are hit and miss. But, it is something that little children may like.

Ready Player One

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: March 29, 2018
Synopsis:
When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. I have been looking forward to this movie since I saw the first trailer. The SFX are amazing, the Oasis looks visually stunning, sets & costumes in the real world are great. But, it is all the eye candy with all the characters and vehicles that the Oasis has to offer that really makes the movie for me. I am a big fan of the 80’s & 90’s music on the soundtrack. Coupled with everyone rising up to take on the ruthless corporate head is something everyone can enjoy.

Sicario: Day Of The Soldado

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
The drug war on the US-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. I was a big fan of the first movie and loved the first trailer for this sequel. I think that Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro have great chemistry together. This movie seems like it will be a lot grittier and more action packed than the first one. But, it’s the introduction of the cartel leader’s daughter that adds a whole new and interesting dynamic to the movie. She causes a rift between the two and it will be interesting to see these two co-workers against one another.

Tag

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: June 15, 2018
Synopsis:
A small group of former classmates organize an elaborate, annual game of tag that requires some to travel all over the country.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This looks like it’s going to a whole lot of fun. The fact that it is based on an actually true story blows my mind. I am loving the ensemble cast they have assembled, so many different kinds of personalities that mesh well with one another. I cracked up laughing at the various life moments they continued to play “Tag” in. This is going to be so much fun!

The Spy Who Dumped Me

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Synopsis:
A pair of friends embark on an espionage adventure after one of them finds out her ex is a spy.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I love the James Bond movie theme that played throughout the trailer. I am liking the combination of Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, they have good chemistry and play off one another very well. I am not a fan of the later actress but she’s good here. This has a lot of laughs and good action sequences but what it is lacking is a good villain. And for me that can make or break a movie like this.

Under The Silver Lake

Studio: A24
Release Date: June 22, 2018
Synopsis:
Centers on a man named Sam who becomes obsessed with the strange circumstances of a billionaire mogul’s murder and the kidnapping of a girl. Sarah, Sam’s new neighbor and Sam’s friend who helps him with an investigation surrounding a missing woman.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it could be a nice little surprise hit or an erratic/trippy movie. I like Andrew Garfield, who had some impressive acting roles the last few years. He does a good job of playing a bit of an obsessive but likable loser. There was a lot of things going on in this initial trailer so let’s hope the next one slows it down and gives a better look at the storyline.
