Deadpool 2

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: May 18, 2018
Synopsis:
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I enjoyed the #$%^ out of the first movie and it looks like they have not lost that loving feeling in the sequel. Everything and everyone that you loved in the first movie is back, with the addition of Cable and a few of the members of X-Force. It looks like they changed their origins a bit but it looks like it works. This movie looks like it has a lot more action like most sequels should. The only thing lacking is a good villain or organization for them to go up against. Let’s hope we see that in the next trailer.

Krystal

Studio: Dorian Media
Release Date: April 13, 2018
Synopsis:
A young man living a sheltered life develops a crush on a stripper and joins her Alcoholics Anonymous group just so he can be in the same room with her.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am a fan of Nick Robinson, who has been on a roll of good roles the last few years. He is definitely expanding his acting repertoire when he tries different roles like this. I have seen guys go to the extremes to woo a woman but he has taken it to another level here. Which provides for a lot of humorous moments but also a lot of emotional as well. It will be interesting to see how it all ends.

Superfly

Studio: Columbia
Release Date: June 15, 2018
Synopsis:
The movie is a remake of the 1972 blaxploitation film ‘Super Fly’.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am not usually a fan of remakes but this actually looks pretty slick looking and definitely looks like an upgrade over the original. The original is a classic despite having a B-movie feel to it. So this movie is off to a good start, so let’s hope the first full trailer has some of the mojo of the original. However, the history of remakes over the last number of years does not give it much hope. Let’s hope this one breaks that streak.

Terminal

Studio: Beagle Pug Films
Release Date: May 11, 2018
Synopsis:
Between a train terminal and an End of the Line Café, a dark world is lurking of death and betrayal, cruelty and wit playing out as unlikely characters do a dangerous dance of life.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This is why I am not much of a fan of teaser trailers. They do not show much in regards to characters or story. But, I must admit I like the film noir look of it. The cast seems good, lead by Margot Robbie, who I have slowly begun to enjoy. But, I have to give it a lower A.F. rating, at least until I see what a full trailer of this looks like.

The Darkest Minds

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Synopsis:
After a disease kills 98% of America’s children, the surviving 2% develop superpowers and are placed in internment camps. A 16-year-old girl escapes her camp and joins a group of other teens on the run from the government.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. The latest Young Adult book series to be adapted for the big screen. This does looks better than some of the previous attempts made in the last few years. I am liking the story, probably because it reminds of how the government/people viewed mutants in the X-Men movies. I really only recognize the main lead and the others are lesser known actors, but they look pretty good in this trailer. The SFX look pretty good too. All we need is a really good bad guy in charge of hunting this children down. Hopefully, we see that in the next trailer.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls

Studio: Universal
Release Date: September 21, 2018
Synopsis:
A young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt aids his magical uncle in locating a clock with the power to bring about the end of the world.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks fantastic! This is definitely the kind of horror movie for children. It is scary and fantastical but not horrific or bloody. I am liking the child played by Owen Vaccaro but it is Jack Black and Cate Blanchett that really pulled me into this movie. They both look great, especially Cate. This movie has a lot of things that should appeal to both children and adults. This has the potential to be a successful new franchise.
