I have TWELVE new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Atomic Blonde   (Red-band)AtomicBlonde

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: July 28, 2017
Synopsis:
An undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks pretty damn good! It’s a female combination of John Wick and Jason Bourne played by the great Charlize Theron. From what I’ve seen this could be one of those great heroine roles a la The Bride in Kill Bill. There are lots of great action sequences coupled with a good storyline could make this a big hit and a possible new action franchise.

Baby Driver     BabyDriver

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: August 11, 2017
Synopsis:
After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. OMG! I think I’m in love. This has everything a bad ass movie could have great action sequences, an amazing cast, a good storyline, a little romance, and most importantly a killer soundtrack to go with it. Edgar Wright really hits it out of the park with his latest movie.

Coco     Coco

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: November 22, 2017
Synopsis:
Coco follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery, leading to an extraordinary family reunion.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like the next big Pixar animation hit. I am liking this Day Of The Dead take better than The Book Of Life movie that came out a few years ago. The animation for this is top-notch, coupled with a good storyline and they got another big money maker on their hands. I can not wait to see what a full trailer will show next.

Despicable Me 3    DespicableMe3A

Studio: Universal
Release Date: June 30, 2017
Synopsis:
Balthazar Bratt, a child star from the 1980s, hatches a scheme for world domination.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This definitely looks like a vast improvement over the Despicable Me 2. I am loving the focus on Gru and his twin brother Dru, who gets him to return to his life of crime. The sequence with the Minions oohing and booing over the pictures of Gru being a villain and a father of 3 was hilarious. Coupled that with the first trailer and all the great 80’s music and this sequel is looking like all kinds of great.

Life    LifeA

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: March 24, 2017
Synopsis:
An international space crew discovers life on Mars.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have been wavering on whether or not this would be good as it so resembled the first Alien movie. But this last trailer has clinched it for me. There is going to be a good deal of action, drama, and suspense to definitely keep me entertained. Add the fact that it has one hell of a cast involved with it, and you got my money opening weekend.

Megan Leavey   MeganLeavey

Studio: LD Entertainment
Release Date: June 9, 2017
Synopsis:
Based on the true life story of a young marine corporal whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love movies based on a true stories. This movie has a good storyline that deals with all the amazing people of the armed forces. Plus, you add man’s best friend into the mix and you got the potential for a good time at the movie. It will be interesting to see what this young lady will have to deal with in order to get her dog back.

Smurfs: The Lost Village    SmurfsTheLostVillage

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: April 7, 2017
Synopsis:
In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting race through the Forbidden Forest leading to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I didn’t see the first one but remember the trailers for it and the sequel actually looks a lot better than the original. I am liking the fact that they have an all-female village of female smurfs. This could definitely lead to a lot of funny moments if all the male smurfs have a female counterpart. It is good to see that they will be teaming up to take on Gargamel and Azriel once again.

The Fate Of The Furious    TheFateOfTheFuriousA

Studio: Universal
Release Date: April 14, 2017
Synopsis:
When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. It is good to see that they have gone in a totally different direction with this new movie. The series has changed a lot from it’s original roots. I think they are giving too much credit by making Dominic such a bad ass. But, it does give them a good reason to add Jason Statham to change up the team dynamic. This movie has a lot of things you expect from a Fast & Furious movie … sweet cars, awesome action sequences, fight scenes, and lots of great team chemistry. Adding Charlize Theron to the mix just takes it to another level.

The Little Mermaid   LittleMermaid

Studio: Unknown
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
Based off of the tale by Hans Christian Andersen, Little Mermaid tells the story of a young mermaid leaving the sea for a human she thinks that she knows. Everything isn’t as it seemed and she must face the harsh realities of the world.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This has got a TV look and feel to it. It kind of reminds me of the Pippi Longstock TV movies that I use to watch when I was a kid. It has a storyline that is ok, the SFX are ok as well, but I think it is the acting that is it’s downfall. Perhaps, the next trailer will be a lot better.

Voice From The Stone    VoicesFromTheStone

Studio: Code 39 Films
Release Date: April 28, 2017
Synopsis:
Set in 1950s Tuscany, Voice from the Stone is the haunting and suspenseful story of Verena, a solemn nurse drawn to aid a young boy who has fallen silent since the sudden passing of his mother.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I am unsure of what to make of this little countryside horror/supernatural thriller. Is it a movie that is about a haunting or warning from the other side? Whatever it maybe you can tell the father is at the center of it. I have not been a fan of Emilia Clarke‘s role other than her Game of Thrones character, and she does not appear to have changed my mine with this movie. I am hoping the next trailer gives us a little something more.

Wonder Woman    WonderWomanA

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: June 2, 2017
Synopsis:
An Amazon princess leaves her island home to explore the world and, in doing so, becomes one of the world’s greatest heroes.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This definitely is the best movie of the DCEU thus far. Previous trailers have shown just a brief look at Themyscira and the Amazons. But, this trailer we get a better look at both as well as the childhood and training of Diana. The World War I part of the movie looks great but slightly reminds me of Captain America. I am waiting to get a good look at the villains for the movies perhaps in the next trailer, because you can’t have a great superhero without a good villain.

For our mixers with a more eclectic film palette, here’s a smaller movie you might miss out on.  This is something we here at CocktailsandMovies.com like to call … an extra sip!

The Transfiguration    TheTransfiguration

Studio: Strand Releasing
Release Date: April 7, 2017
Synopsis:
When troubled teen Milo, who has a fascination with vampire lore, meets the equally alienated Sophie, the two form a bond that begins to blur Milo’s fantasy into reality.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am liking this movie. I have seen many a movie where one gets obsessed with something, in this case vampires is a stroke of genius. It’s almost like a real-life version rather than a hollywood version of vampires we are watching. Seeing it in a more real world context makes the movie that more creepier and thrilling.
