Trailer Tap Trailers

Welcome to CocktailsandMovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap!

Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing about who are the early favorites on Dancing With The Stars? Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share something new with you.

Happy Thursday, Mixers! Every Thursday, CocktailsandMovies.com is here to help you get through one more day of the work week. The Thursday Trailer Tap is here with new movie trailers, letting you pencil in some movies to watch in 2016.

The spring season has begun! Not only does this time of year bring rebirth, renewal, and regrowth but apparently also lots of movie trailers. So many movie trailers have been appearing in movie theatres and online since the Academy Awards. I assume that movie studios’ main focus is now on their upcoming 2016 movie releases. This week’s selection includes trailers for nine movies I have not heard about before. So that is quite exciting to me. No real big movie studio trailer this week but lots of great smaller movies to make you go wow, laugh, cry, and gasp! While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back.  So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!  I have THIRTEEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Genius Genius

Studio: Roadside Attractions
Release Date:
July 29, 2016
Synopsis:
A chronicle of Max Perkins’s time as the book editor at Scribner, where he oversaw works by Thomas Wolfe, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and others.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  This movie has some great talent and a nice little story.  Although, it may seem boring to some but I like it when a passion for something often overtakes a person’s life and causes problem with family/relationships.  It makes for some great dramatic and emotional scenes in a movie.

Holidays Holidays

Studio: Artcastle Productions
Release Date:
April 15, 2016
Synopsis:
HOLIDAYS is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions and assumptions.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  I think the horror anthologies like V/H/S and ABC’s of Death are a refreshing and innovative way to watch horror movies.  With their shorten run times they often have to get right to it so we don’t have to sit through unnecessary long set-ups and the slow reveal of the horror that awaits.  Often times, these little stories are often better than most full-length movies being released.  I liked a few of the stories but am unsure of some of them as well hence the Medium anticipation.

Hush Hush

Studio: Intrepid Pictures
Release Date:
April 8, 2016
Synopsis:
A deaf woman is stalked by a psychotic killer in her secluded home.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  This should be an interesting horror movie as the trailer was creepy and suspensful.  Not only is this woman alone but she is deaf and mute which should make for some interesting situations for her in the movie.  A horror movie is only as good as the bad guy and this is a type of character we have seen in the past.  So this could be the difference between a good or ok movie.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates MikeAndDaveNeedWeddingDates

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
July 8, 2016
Synopsis:
Hard-partying brothers Mike and Dave place an online ad to find the perfect dates for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  I enjoyed this trailer, it had lots of laughs in it.  It’s funny how they found ladies that can out-party them.  I think that Zac Efron has found his niche in these types of comedies lately.  I think the ladies, Anna Kendrick & Audrey Plaza, are going to be the best parts of the movies.  Based on the trailer, it looks like we will be in for some inappropriate wild scenes and crazy antics.  Bring it on!

Mr. Right MrRight

Studio: Focus World
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
A girl falls for the “perfect” guy, who happens to have a very fatal flaw: he’s a hitman on the run from the crime cartels who employ him.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  This movie has a little bit of everything for everyone: action, adventure, romance, drama, emotion, and dark humor.  It’s got a Grosse Pointe Blank feel to it, which is a movie I liked a lot.  Despite their age difference, I’m enjoying the chemistry between Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick.  I love watching a Sam Rockwell movie, he has a crazy and funny side that I enjoy seeing on the big screen.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping PopstarNeverStopNeverStopping

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
June 3, 2016
Synopsis:
When his new album fails to sell records, pop/rap superstar conner4real goes into a major tailspin and watches his celebrity high life begin to collapse. He’ll try anything to bounce back, anything except reuniting with his old rap group The Style Boyz.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  This parody of the music industry and boy band is pretty funny.  I love how they overly exaggerated the life of a music celebrity.  I’m not a big Andy Samberg fan but he looks pretty funny in it.  I’m just hoping they don’t overdo it and pack it with too many cameos that takes away from the storyline.  Can’t wait to see what the next trailer brings.

Queen of the Desert QueenOfTheDesert

Studio: Atlas Distribution
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
A chronicle of Gertrude Bell’s life, a traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  I’m glad to see we are getting a movie with a strong female storyline.  Not only are there very few that come out in a year, but they tend to come at the end of the year for Award consideration.  Nicole Kidman looks great here, glad to see her get back to form after a few lackluster roles lately.  A good supporting cast and some beautiful cinematography that reminds me of Lawrence of Arabia has my interest piqued.

Storks Storks

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date:
September 23, 2016
Synopsis:
Storks have moved on from delivering babies to packages. But when an order for a baby appears, the best delivery stork must scramble to fix the error by delivering the baby.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  The first trailer was ok but this second trailer was a lot better.  We get to see what the movie will be like and the storyline look good and pretty funny.  I love how they made the storyline more for adults but still enjoyable for kids.  Despite it not being one of the Pixar, Disney or DreamWorks animation powerhouses, the animation looks pretty good.  Can’t wait to take my nephew and niece!

The Driftless Area TheDriftlessArea

Studio: Unified Pictures
Release Date:
April 26, 2016
Synopsis:
A bartender comes back to his hometown after his parents die, and finds himself in a dangerous situation involving a mysterious woman and a violent criminal.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  This has some potential to be a good little movie that probably few people will get a chance to see.  The storyline looks promising and the cast looks good.  It has a nice suspenseful and eerie feel to it but also a little bit of that impending doom.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War TheHuntsmanWW

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
April 22, 2016
Synopsis:
As two evil sisters prepare to conquer the land; two renegades – Eric the Huntsman – who previously aided Snow White in defeating Ravenna, and his forbidden lover, Sara set out to stop them.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  At last, a trailer to showcase more of the Huntsman, after all the movie is named after him.  I’m glad to see there will be a lot more action and adventure to it, and not just all magic and SFX.

The Lobster TheLobster

Studio: A24
Release Date:
May 13. 2016
Synopsis:
In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH.  Great first trailer!  I love this type of movie.  A quirky look at love in society in the future.  I like seeing Colin Farrell in this small dramatic movies, I think he is better in this than action movies.  He has a good supporting cast that will should make the film quite enjoyable.  Although, not much for romantic movies, I like seeing a movie where a person must decide with his heart even though it may have dire ramifications for his life.

The Nice Guys TheNiceGuys

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date:
May 20, 2016
Synopsis:
A private eye investigates the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1970’s Los Angeles and uncovers a conspiracy

Anticipation Factor: HIGH.  I was already in when I saw the first trailer.  This movie shows a little more about the storyline and partnership between Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.  The chemistry between the two is awesome.  Ryan Gosling has shown me another side of his acting ability that I enjoy.  His characters cracks me up a lot!

The Shallows TheShallows

Studio: Sony/Columbia
Release Date:
June 24, 2016
Synopsis:
When Mia is attacked by a great white shark while surfing alone, she is stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM.  It’s an interesting storyline, although the trailer is not as suspenseful as I hoped it to be.  Perhaps, if it was more out at sea it would be.  It will be interesting to see how she survives or if she does.  I hope there’s not a big build-up of her life and how she got to that situation.  Or that the shark life-or-death scenario is the last 20 minutes of the movie.  Let’s see what the next trailer brings.
