A Quiet Place

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: April 6, 2018
Synopsis:
A family is forced to live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. They have really upped the ante in this final trailer. Not only do we get some actual words spoken but they turned up the suspense and fear to “11”. It will be very interesting to see who survives and who does not based on the promise made. This is going to be one hell of a feature debut by director John Krasinski.

Cargo

Studio: Umbrella Entertainment
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
CARGO is a post apocalyptic thriller and an emotional story of a father trying to save his child at all costs.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is an interesting twist on the zombie/undead movies that takes parental love up a notch. Based on what we know and what will happen this movie is going to have a lot of emotion/drama as well as action and horror. This is a good first trailer and I am anxious to see if they make it a bit more scary in the next trailer.

First Reformed

Studio: A24
Release Date: May 18, 2018
Synopsis:
A former military chaplain is wracked by grief over the death of his son. Mary is a member of his church whose husband, a radical environmentalist, commits suicide, setting the plot in motion.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This has an interesting storyline and sub-plots that are all connected to Ethan Hawke. He has been on a great streak of movie roles this last few years and this looks like another one. It will be interesting to see how all these stories will connect in the end. The movie has a lot of great camera work and they have a solid supporting cast for Ethan to play off of.

How To Talk To Girls At Parties

Studio: A24
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
An alien touring the galaxy breaks away from her group and meets two young inhabitants of the most dangerous place in the universe: the London suburb of Croydon.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is one wacky but delightful movie, but what else would you expect with Neil Gaiman as one of the writers. I am loving all these British young adult movies set in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s that have been coming out. I think that Elle Fanning and Alex Sharp are great as the two leads. The costumes are slick, and the soundtrack should be epic as well. I love these nostalgic movies that are coming out. I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next trailer.

Night School

Studio: Universal
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
A group of troublemakers who are forced to attend night school in hopes that they’ll pass the GED exam to finish high school.

Anticipation Factor: LOW. It does not even seem like this studio is really trying to give the audience a good movie. This looks horrible. They just two comedians, Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, who are on hot streaks with comedies. They are definitely not using Tiffany to her full potential, she seems very stiff in this role. And Kevin is basically playing a character he’s done a number of times already. I hope the next trailer is a lot better and they can turn it around or no one is going to see this.

Upgrade

Studio: BH Tilt
Release Date: June 1, 2018
Synopsis:
Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am liking this variation on Death Wish but with a Robocop twist to it. Setting it in the near-future makes the plot seem more plausible. I love the voice of Stem and how they communicate with one another, almost like the role of Iron Man and Jarvis. Those fight sequences are pretty violent but also kinda of funny with how he is reacting to what Stem is having his body do. These movie will only really work with a good bad guy. I hope the next trailer shows that.
