Thursday Trailer Tap – 04/06/17

by Duwayne Tso

Welcome to Thursday Trailer Tap! Thursday Trailer Tap

Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing about how a Baby defeated the Beast’s reign this weekend? Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share something new with you.

This has been a very busy and tiring week at work for me, so I am glad this was a slow week for movie trailers. The Summer Movie season will be upon us soon. It seems every year, they start it sooner and sooner. Which means we should be seeing lots of movie trailers in the coming weeks. This week we have ONE movie we are seeing a movie trailer for the first time and FOUR movies we have previewed for you already in the past. This week we have movies about the origin of the creepiest doll since Chucky, the final King Arthur trailer, a child genius uses his brains to help out his friend, a good look at the rebooted The Mummy movie with Tom Cruise, and the final battle between humans and the apes is about to begin!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back.  So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have FIVE new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Annabelle: Creation     AnnabelleCreation

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: August 11, 2017
Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Originally I was excited about the first Annabelle, that was before seeing it. I am unsure of how this sequel got green-lit by the studio. That being said, the trailer for this sequel does look like it’s going to be scary and chilling. It will be good to see how Annabelle came to life. Let us hope that the producers learned from the mistakes of the first and do this one right.

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword     KingArthurLegendOfTheSword

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: May 12, 2017
Robbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy – whether he likes it or not.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have been eagerly awaiting this movie since it was first announced. I am a big fan of Guy Ritchie and it will be interesting to see how he handles a big action franchise movie. This movie is part 300 and part Lord of the Rings, with a more realistic portrayal of the King Arthur legend. I love the origin sub-plot and focus on the beginning of the Arthurian mythology. Which means no Knights of the Round Table or Merlin, which might hurt the movie. We shall see.

The Book of Henry    TheBookOfHenry

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: June 18, 2017
A single mother raises a child genius.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like this movie a lot. At first, you think this is going to be a feel-good family movie about a child genius. But, then it throws you for a loop with the boy trying to help his friend & neighbor from her abusive step-father. This movie is going to hit lots of different emotions and a good amount of suspense to it. It will be good to see the young kid, Jacob Tremblay, from Room in another great role.

The Mummy     TheMummyA

Studio: Universal
Release Date: June 9, 2017
An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am loving this reboot of the Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy movie series. Not only does it have a superstar in Tom Cruise in the lead role. But, it is the first movie in the shared Universal Monsters Universe. There is a lot of action and adventure in this one. I love how they changed up the sex of the Mummy and made her a legitimate bad ass villain. This is going to be one heck of a movie.

War for the Planet of the Apes    WarForThePlanetOfTheApesA

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: July 14, 2017
After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. This is one of my Top 5 movies that I want to see for 2017. I have been a big fan of the first two rebooted Apes movie series. They were well-written with lots of great action and unbelievable ape SFX. This third movie looks like the culmination of the first two movies and it will be going out with a bang. Not only will be have a lot of war but we will have the great Woody Harrelson trying to save the human race from the apes. This is going to be one hell of a movie.
