A Simple Favor

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: September 14, 2018
Synopsis:
A SIMPLE FAVOR, directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie, a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s sudden disappearance from their small town.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This could be an interesting movie. It has an interesting story and two great actresses in Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. I could not get a good read on what the movie will be. Is it a comedy, drama, or a little of both. At the moment, I am thinking it is more of comedic version of Gone Girl. I hope the next trailer clears that up, because that could make or break the movie.

Ant-Man & The Wasp

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: July 6, 2018
Synopsis:
As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This looks like it might be even better than the first one. This has a lot of the humor and action that made the first one good. The first trailer was more comedic but this one more action-packed. I am loving the addition of The Wasp, she definitely kicks butt. I was a little worried about the villain of the Ghost, but I like what I see in this trailer. It is looking like the MCU blockbuster streak will continue on with this.

Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot

Studio: Amazon Studios
Release Date: July 13, 2018
Synopsis:
On the rocky path to sobriety after a life-changing accident, John Callahan discovers the healing power of art, willing his injured hands into drawing hilarious, often controversial cartoons, which bring him a new lease on life.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix and love all the movies he has been doing. This looks like it might be one of his best yet. I enjoy a movie where a person rises up and does not let a life-changing event keep them down. This movie has a lot of drama, emotion, but also some dark humor to it. The supporting cast is also great, so they should provide some great moments. I am looking forward to seeing what the next trailer shows us.

Kin

Studio: Lionsgate / Summit
Release Date: August 31, 2018
Synopsis:
Chased by a vengeful criminal, the feds and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con and his adopted teenage brother are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. Wow! I did not have high hopes for this but this looks pretty cool. It has got a vibe that is a cross between Looper and Chronicle with an alien twist to it. it has a good story with cool SFX and good action sequences. I think what I like most about it is the young child, Myles Truitt,  at the center of everything. They give him a good father and brother in Dennis Quaid and Jack Reynor as supporting cast. This has the potential to be a surprise hit, so I am looking forward to the next trailer.

Leave No Trace

Studio: Bleecker Street
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
A father and his 13 year-old daughter are living in a paradisiacal existence in a vast urban park in Portland Oregon when a small mistake derails their lives forever.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like this movie a lot. It reminds me of a scale-down version of Captain Fantastic. Which means a more intense focus of the father-daughter relationship. I think this is the best role that Ben Foster has ever done. I am surprised that this is a debut by Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, because she is so good. This is definitely a movie that has award nomination potential. I hope the summer release does not hurt it. Regardless of that, this is definitely on my Must-See for Summer.

Smallfoot

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
A Yeti is convinced that the elusive creatures known as “humans” really do exist.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This could be something that the little children might like, not so much bigger kids or parents. I do love the role reversal of the Yeti and humans in the Yeti society, that does make for a lot of humor. I am not a fan of the interactions when the Yeti goes in search of the Smallfoot. I hope the next trailer is a lot better in that regards.

Uncle Drew

Studio: Lionsgate / Summit
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Rucker Classic street ball tournament in Harlem, Dax is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his longtime rival. Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend UNCLE DREW and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew’s old basketball squad and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This movie has slowly gotten better looking with each new trailer. It has worked up the Anticipation Factor from LOW. This movie reminds me of a comedic version of Above The Rim. I like the road trip recruitment sub-plot, kinda like how they did it in The Magnificent Seven. Lol. Glad to see they cut out all the goofy stuff and started making a better looking comedy. I think I might watch it now. Might. Lol.
