BlacKkKlansman

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: August 10, 2018
Synopsis:
Ron Stallworth, an African-American police officer from Colorado, successfully managed to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan and became the head of the local chapter.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks to be one of Spike Lee‘s best movies in quite awhile. I love that it is based on a true story but has two different points of views of a group of people trying to bring power to their respective peoples. The story looks great, and I am loving how Spike tones down the drama and seriousness and adds a humorous edge to it. This movie did very well at Cannes and looks to build on that success with this trailer.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: November 2, 2018
Synopsis:
A chronicle of the years leading up to Queen’s legendary appearance at the Live Aid (1985) concert in 1985.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am a big Queen’s fan. I love their music and have been eagerly awaiting this movie once I heard they were making it. Rami Malek nails down his role as the late great Freddie Mercury. The other band members look spot on as well. I love movies about musicans/groups. It is always great to see how they got together or how songs were created. From what I see they are focusing on the early years and the rise of Queen. I hope we see a little more about his sexuality and I don’t know if it will detail his final days. It’s a lot of history to cover so there are something that need to be sacrificed.

Destination Wedding

Studio: Regatta
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
The story of two miserable and unpleasant wedding guests, Lindsay and Frank, who develop a mutual affection despite themselves.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Keanu Reeves was pretty funny as an unpleasant dude and Winona Ryder was great as an irritating gal. It is great to see these two together again, they have great chemistry together. There were quite a number of humorous moments between the two. It will be interesting to see how or if they do come together. The only thing know is who else is in it and if they will enhance the story. Either way, this should be a lot of fun.

Hereditary

Studio: A24
Release Date: June 8, 2018
Synopsis:
When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This not only looks like it is going to be the next big horror movie. But, it is going to have one heck of a mother that we might remember for awhile. The cast led by Toni Collette look great, especially both the young actors playing her kids. This movie looks creep as @#$% and has a suspense level that is at another level that most horror movies wish they had. I can not wait for this to get here already.

Mile 22

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Synopsis:
An elite American intelligence officer, aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. It is about time that Mark Wahlberg got back to good old fashion action packed movies. This movie has a lot of potential for some good action sequences. I am not too sure about the rest of his teammates but I do like Iko Uwais (The Raid) as the police officer who needs escorting. I am loving this first look at the movie, let us hope that the next trailer gives us a little more to get excited about.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: July 27, 2018
Synopsis:
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. The MI movies seem to get better every time and the latest seems like it may be the best one yet. This latest trailer shows the more seriousness of it and I know understand the meaning behind the Fallout name. Tom Cruise and company look great, and I really like the return of bad guy Sean Harris. But, is the addition of Henry Cavill as a possible bad guy to the mix according to what this trailer shows that I am loving. The previous trailers showed everything we have come to expect of MI films, but this final trailer really shows us the seriousness and ramifications of working for the IMF. Another movie I am looking forward to this summer.

Searching

Studio: Sony / Screen Gems
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Synopsis:
After his 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a desperate father breaks into her laptop to look for clues to find her.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it might be a good movie about the dangers of social media. I am not too sure that I like that most of the movie will be seen from the prospective of the computer screen though. But, that is where the father learns that he did not really know his daughter, so it may work. John Cho looks good in this movie, but I hope that he does have some good supporting cast to work off of. That could make or break the movie. Let’s hope the next trailer gives us some of that.

The House That Jack Built

Studio: Zentropa Entertainment
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
The story follows Jack, a highly intelligent serial killer over the course of 12 years and depicts the murders that truly develop Jack as a serial killer.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it could be one of the Best Serial Killer movies of All-Time. I have been a fan of Matt Dillon since The Outsiders, and this looks like it could be his Best Performance ever. His performance may be right up there with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. I love how the kookiness, dark humor, and music dampens the brutality and violence that they showed us. This movie looks like it may bring Lars von Trier into the public spotlight in a more positive spotlight that most of his movie over the last number of years have done. I am so looking forward to seeing this movie.

The Predator

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: September 14, 2018
Synopsis:
When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am a huge fan of the original Predator, not so much of the sequels. I was excited about this because of Shane Black’s involvement with it. But, this trailer really left me hanging. It had a definite PG-13 vibe to it, instead of the R rated movie they said it would be. I would have preferred no kid, more about the ex-soliders and the people investigating, and less Predator. They need to get an R-rated trailer out soon and do not show us all the good stuff.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Synopsis:
Audrey and Morgan are best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I have been enjoying Mila Kunis and her movies of late. But, I do find Kate McKinnon more annoying than funny. So this movie does not seem as funny as it should be. The action looks entertaining enough and the supporting cast seems okay. This looks like a bad version of Melissa McCarthy‘s Spy. The only thing that could save this movie is a great villain and I have not seen one yet. I hope they work on that for the next trailer.
