Welcome to CocktailsandMovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap!

Cocktailsandmovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap

Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing about how Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol.2 continue their hold on the #1 spot? Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share something new with you.

This was a good week for movie trailers, not a lot of trailers this week but all of them were good. This week we have FOUR movie we are seeing a movie trailer for the first time and THREE movies we have previewed for you already in the past. This week we have movies dealing with the historic man vs female tennis match, a criminal is on the run, a woman has a mid-life crisis, a man travels in time to save his world, life inside your cell phone, an aging actor gets another chance for glory, and the final battle between man and ape!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back.  So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have SEVEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Battle Of The Sexes   BattleOfTheSexes

Studio: Fox Searchlight
Release Date:
September 22, 2017
Synopsis:
The true story of the 1973 tennis match between World number one Billie Jean King and ex-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like movies based on real-life events & people and this could be an interesting one. They have two excellent choices in Emma Stone and Steve Carrell as the two main leads. Their acting is great and their portrayals of them are spot on. I would give it a higher A.F., but I think that they are overdoing it a bit on the male chauvinism.

Good Time   GoodTime

Studio: A24
Release Date:
August 11, 2017
Synopsis:
A bank robber finds himself unable to evade those who are looking for him.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like it when actors try new kinds of roles, and Robert Pattinson has been impressing me with his roles after Twilight. There is an interesting story, but it seems to be all over the place. I’m not sure if that is to mimic the frantic situation the lead is going through. I hope the next trailer fixes this problem, so we can see if this movie is worth checking out.

Home Again   HomeAgain

Studio: Open Road Films
Release Date:
September 8, 2017
Synopsis:
Life for a single mom in Los Angeles takes an unexpected turn when she allows three young guys to move in with her.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it is not only going to be a funny movie but have lots of good family moments as well. Reese Witherspoon is perfectly cast as a newly single mom going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. Not only is she funny and cute, but she can go through a wide range of emotion and drama. She also has some nice help with a good supporting cast, including Michael Sheen and Candice Bergen. This has everything it needs to be a nice little hit.

Kill Switch   KillSwitchA

Studio: FilmNation Entertainment
Release Date:
June 16, 2017
Synopsis:
A pilot battles to save his family and the planet after an experiment for unlimited energy goes wrong.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. The first teaser trailer really didn’t show much which is why I gave it a Medium Low A.F.. However, the latest trailer is something that I enjoyed. The movie has the basis premise of a person going back in time to save the world a la Source Code or 13 Monkeys. However, what I like about it is that the movie is more like a video game. It has the First Person Shooter perspective of the hero trying to save the world. I have seen this done a few times without too much success, but it seems this attempt is good. The SFX are good as are the action sequences, so it definitely now has my attention.

The Emoji Movie   TheEmojiMovieA

Studio: Columbia
Release Date:
July 28, 2017
Synopsis:
Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I gave the first teaser trailer a Low A.F. rating. But, this first full trailer actually surprised me. It reminds me a lot of the Wreck-It Ralph movie, but set in the world of the cell phone. The animation is not bad, and the characters are actually interesting and funny. My niece is really into emoticons, so maybe that factored in a bit. But, there were some pretty funny scenes and things that we can all relate to in some way. This might actually be a surprise hit that adults will like when they take their kids to it.

The Hero   TheHero

Studio: The Orchard
Release Date:
June 9, 2017
Synopsis:
An ailing movie star comes to terms with his past and mortality.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This is the kind of smaller independent movies that most people miss out on. I have been a Sam Elliot fan since I was watching his westerns with my dad when I was a kid. It is interesting that the movie actually mirrors his film career. It is good to see get a chance to shine in a lead role, as he still has the gravitas to be a leading man. He has a good supporting cast, and I love seeing his scenes with Katharine Ross.

War For The Planet Of The Apes   WarForThePlanetOfTheApesB

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date:
July 14, 2017
Synopsis:
After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. I have been a huge fan of this rebooted series. These movies have not only great stories and SFX, but the apes are unbelievable realistic. Which adds to creating a stronger story as they have the ability to actually show emotions in their faces. Caesar has been such a great leader for the apes, but it looks like he may have met his match in Woody Harrelson. He is perfectly cast as the last hope for the human race. He brings all kinds of craziness to the role. The SFX are great, and the action sequences are amazing. This is looking like it will be a great ending to an amazing series!
