Assassination Nation   (Red-Band)

Studio: Neon
Release Date: September 21, 2018
This is a thousand percent a true story about how the quiet, all-American town of Salem absolutely lost its mind.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I am not a big fan of teaser trailers, but this piques my interest slightly. We do not see any of the character or know exactly what the storyline really is. But, we do get a glimpse of all the chaotic, reckless, and inappropriate behavior the townspeople descend into. I hope the next trailer starts laying a bit of the groundwork down to get people interested in it.

Beautiful Boy

Studio: Amazon Studios
Release Date: October 12, 2018
Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This looks amazing. Timothee Chalamet is such a phenomenal actor, he shows a lot of emotion in his latest performance. Steve Carell has made a wonderful transition from comedic to dramatic actor. This movie absolutely has a lot of emotion and drama with some heartbreaking moments. Add the fact that is based on real life people/events and this has got my attention. This movie definitely has award nomination potential to it.

Studio: Ansgar Media / Cinetic Media
Release Date: August 17, 2018
The life and death of musician Blaze Foley.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I love movie based on real people, especially when it is based on a musician. There is something that I really enjoy about watching a musician and his/her craft. I actually know a little about Blaze and it will be great to learn more about him. Despite knowing the tragic ending to the story, it will still be a joy to watch. I love the mellow but emotional vibe that the trailer presented. I cannot wait to see the next trailer for this.

King Of Thieves

Studio: Working Title Films
Release Date: TBA
A crew of retired crooks pull off a major heist in London’s jewelry district.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it might have some possibilities to it. I am loving the supporting cast of old-timers they assembled for this. I love the camaraderie among the chaps. This will definitely get the stink of the remake of Going In Style from last year out of my mind. Add the fact that this is based on a true story and I am so there Opening Weekend. I hope the next trailer shows some of the preparations for the heist. It reminds me more of a lot of Ocean’s Eleven, except older.

Studio: EFO Films / Ingenious Media
Release Date: August 31, 2018
A veteran looks to raise money for his son’s healthcare by teaming up with another vet to track down criminals.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This has got a straight to dvd or home streaming format vibe to it. I love the merging of new and old school action stars in Frank Grillo and Bruce Willis. The story is passable but what it is lacking is a good villain. I think that it one of the things that a movie like this requires in order to be a good movie. That withstanding the next trailer needs to show more action sequences in order to get the masses interested in it.

Skate Kitchen   (Red-Band)

Studio: Magnolia Pictures
Release Date: August 10, 2018
Camille’s life as a lonely suburban teenager changes dramatically when she befriends a group of girl skateboarders. As she journeys deeper into this raw New York City subculture, she begins to understand the true meaning of friendship as well as her inner self.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like it watching a movie from a different perspective that what we normally are accustomed to. Most skateboard movies have been male-centric, and this one is an all-female crew. It will be interesting to see what drives the women for their passion for skateboarding. It is also a coming of age movie as well which will definitely provide a bit of fireworks as well.

The Domestics

Studio: Hollywood Gang Productions
Release Date: June 28, 2018
In a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by gangs divided into deadly factions, a husband and wife race desperately across the countryside in search of safety and must work together as they are pushed to the breaking point in order to survive.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. We have another trailer this week that has a straight to video or home streaming vibe to it. I do like movies that a dystopian storyline to it. There is something about how low a human being will go once the rules of society disappear. It has a mix feel of Mad Max and The Purge to it. The next trailer needs to show a bit more of the carnage and action rather than just the tension of the life and death situation the people are in.

The Equalizer 2

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: July 20, 2018
Robert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed, but how far will he go when that is someone he loves?

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. Based on the trailer, I think I might enjoy this more than I did the first one. Denzel Washington is the man, he has been generating great performances for years. It is great to see Robert back to a normal life but then we see he is still helping out victims and dishing out justice. The action/fight sequences look great and there is a bit of humor sprinkled throughout. I love the professionalism he demonstrates throughout but then pushes aside when he begins to seek vengeance for his slain friend. This is going to be awesome!

The Hate U Give

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: October 19, 2018
Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This is a movie storyline that can be ripped from today’s headlines. This movie is jam-packed with lots of drama, emotion, and intensity. Amandla Stenberg is good as a young woman who has the best of both worlds until he life is turned upside down. She does a great job of being the centerpiece of the movie. This is going to be one explosive movie that everyone should see.

The Predator

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: September 14, 2018
When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. The first teaser trailer was not all that I thought it would be considering the R rating. But, this trailer just changed my mind and has me excited about it again. Sterling K. Brown and Boyd Holbrook look great as bad ass action heroes. They cut back on the comedy and went straight action with this trailer. I am loving the action sequences especially the ones involving the Predator. I am excited about the new upgraded Predator but they probably should have save that for the movie or at least the final trailer. This is going to be a lot of fun!
