An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn

Studio: Park Pictures / Wigwam Films
Release Date: October 19, 2018
Synopsis:
Lulu Danger’s unsatisfying marriage takes a turn for the worse when a mysterious man from her past comes to town to perform an event called “An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn; For One Magical Night Only.”

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This little movie popped out of nowhere and I did not know what to expect. But, the trailer was surprisingly good. It had humor, fun characters, and it looks like there will be a lot of hi-jinks to keep us entertained. It had a solid ensemble cast, lead by Aubrey Plaza and Jemaine Clement, both of whom can hold their own in this type of comedic chaos.

Freaks

Studio: Bloombgarden Films
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
In this genre-bending psychological sci-fi thriller, a bold girl discovers a bizarre, threatening, and mysterious new world beyond her front door after she escapes her father’s protective and paranoid control.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am loving this trend of suspense/horror movie that have been coming out lately. Less like the horror movies from my day but mixed with a good storyline and just enough tension to keep you on the edge of your seat. I like what I see from this movie and it’s a good first look. I am liking the casting of Emile Hirsch as the father and the little girl Lexy Kolker looks like she may blow it out of the water. I cannot wait to see the next trailer for this one.

Hold The Dark

Studio: Netflix
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
After the deaths of three children suspected to be by wolves, writer Russell Core is hired by the parents of a missing six-year-old boy to track down and locate their son in the Alaskan wilderness.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it might be a pretty good movie. I like the story and the environment really adds to the suspense. It is good to see Jeffrey Wright get a lead role, he’s a good actor and I have begun to become a fan of the King’s grand-daughter Riley Keough. It will be interesting to see where the investigation leads to, as it seems like the townspeople might be hiding a secret.

Night School

Studio: Universal
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
A group of troublemakers are forced to attend night school in hope that they’ll pass the GED exam to finish high school.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. I had low expectations when the trailer hit and I was hoping that subsequent trailers would raise them. But, with this final trailer it seems like the answer is an emphatic NO.  They have the two biggest comedic talents at the moment but it is not as funny as I thought it would be. It’s a shame they wasted this pairing. This is a definite wait for it to be on the movie channels at home situation.

Outlaw King

Studio: Netflix
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
A true David v Goliath story of how the great 14th Century Scottish ‘Outlaw King’ Robert The Bruce used cunning and bravery to defeat and repel the much larger and better equipped occupying English army.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I have been waiting to see the first trailer for this and I must say that I immensely impressed. I love the reuniting of actor Chris Pine and director David Mackenzie from their previous movie, Hell Or High Water. I became a fan of David after seeing Starred Up, even more so after HOHW. This movie definitely giving me Braveheart memories, as it is a continuation of the story of Scotland’s Independence. The movie looks wonderful, it has a solid cast, good storyline, with lots of fight sequences. I cannot wait for this to hit theatres!

Slice

Studio: A24
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
When a pizza delivery driver is murdered on the job, the city searches for someone to blame: ghosts? drug dealers? a disgraced werewolf?

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This movie has a kind of 90’s horror movie feel to it … and I like that. The movie looks good, it has a fun storyline to it, and the scare/horror moments look like it will be a lot of fun. Hopefully, we get a release date soon and another trailer sooner.

The Oath

Studio: Roadside Attractions
Release Date: October 12, 2018
Synopsis:
In a politically divided America, a man struggles to make it through the Thanksgiving holiday without destroying his family.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This had the potential to be a nice comedic take on the political situation that our country is in today. But, this looks like this movie is even more messed up than that. Lol. I usually enjoy this movies where a family get together goes off the rails but this looks pretty bad. I hope that the next trailer fixes that problem.
