A Private War

Studio: Aviron Pictures
Release Date: November 2, 2018
Synopsis:
One of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time, Marie Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontline of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I love movies based on real people/events so this definitely got my attention. It takes a certain kind of individual to go this kind of job, so it will be interesting to see its effect on a woman. Rosamund Pike has been on fire the last couple of years with the roles she has taken. And this latest looks like another good one. I am loving all the situations she puts herself in to and the convictions she has in doing so. So that will make this quite an emotional and dramatic movie.

Bad Times At The El Royale

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: October 12, 2018
Synopsis:
Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption – before everything goes to hell.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This second looks better than the first one and has gotten me a bit more excited for it. This time we get a better look at the characters as well as the danger they are in. How they get there and how they get out is what we still need to find out. So that should be a lot of fun. I am loving this ensemble cast as well, It is going to be a lot of fun seeing how stands out and how survives to the end. Drew Goddard is a pretty good writer but I am loving his directing abilities slightly more, this is a great sophomoric effort.

Ben Is Back

Studio: Roadside Attractions
Release Date: December 7, 2018
Synopsis:
Follows the charming yet troubled Ben Burns, who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben’s wary mother Holly Burns welcomes her beloved son’s return, but soon learns he is still very much in harm’s way. During the 24 hours that may change their lives forever, Holly must do everything in her power to avoid the family’s downfall.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This is a very short teaser trailer and this is not much to go by to give it a decent A.F. rating. It does have some emotion to it, both positive (mom) and negative (daughter). I have enjoyed Lucas Hedges‘ brief career thus far. I am not a fan of Julia Roberts but she looks good in her brief appearance. I hope we get to see a full trailer soon.

First Man

Studio: Universal
Release Date: October 12, 2018
Synopsis:
A look at the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. As I have said numerous times before, I am a fan of movies based on real people/events. The Right Stuff is one of my favorite astronaut movies, and this movie looks like it may be almost as good as that. I love seeing how they train to be astronauts, especially seeing all the good and bad stuff. Ryan Gosling looks great in this, but I am not a big fan of Claire Foy as his wife. She has not impressed me with any of her movie roles as of yet. Damien Chazelle is becoming one heck of a director, he tells a good story with lots of emotion/drama. I also love the use of practical effects over CGI that makes me like this movie a lot.

Hell Fest   (Red-band)

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
A masked serial killer turns a horror themed amusement park into his own personal playground, terrorizing a group of friends while the rest of the patrons believe that it is all part of the show.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like this concept and this is the second of two movies with the theme. It does look a lot better, bloodier, and scarier than the first one coming out. This has a better storyline and I love how it takes awhile for everyone to believe they are being stalked, sometimes a bit too late. Lol. I doubt we get another trailer for this, which is good since it might give away too much.

Johnny English Strikes Again

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: October 26, 2018
Synopsis:
After a cyber-attack reveals the identity of all of the active undercover agents in Britain, Johnny English is forced to come out of retirement to find the mastermind hacker.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This just reminds me a cross between James Bond and Mr. Bean. I could never get into Rowan Atkinson‘s role as Mr. Bean, so this movie does not really do too much for me. The comedy seems more juvenile than adult. This is a sequel, so apparently there are fans that will come out when this hits theatres.

Suspiria

Studio: Amazon Studios
Release Date: October 26, 2018
Synopsis:
A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This is the kind of remake that studios should be putting out. It does have a lot of the things from the original but it does a slightly different vibe/look to it. I think what director Luca Guadagnino has crafted is almost as good as the original. It starts of innocent enough but gets spooky and suspenseful very quickly. The cast led by Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton are excellent. And the music really adds to the eeriness of the film. I cannot wait to see this movie.

The Old Man & The Gun

Studio: Fox Searchlights
Release Date: September 28, 2018
Synopsis:
Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker and his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am a big Robert Redford fan, whether he is starring or directing I am there. So it was sad to hear that this would be his last acting role. He has definitely not lost his touch, as he is still as charming as ever. He has a good supporting cast as his crew, but it’s Casey Affleck as the cop trying to catch him that I will enjoy watch the 2nd most. It will be interesting to see how the movie ends as it could do in a couple of directions. It looks like Redford may go out on top!
