Studio: Paramount
Release Date: December 21, 2018
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like this first full trailer as it is less comedic than than the teaser trailer. This cuts down on all that and gets back to what made the Transformers good … robots and action/battle sequences. I loved the cameos of Optimus, Shockwave, and Soundwave. I loved how they switched it up for this movie with the government helping the bad guys unknowingly. This might be a better movie than most of the Transformer sequels.

Creed II

Studio: MGM
Release Date: November 21, 2018
Under the tutelage of Rocky Balboa, newly crowned light heavyweight champion Adonis Creed faces off against Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I enjoyed the first Creed and was excited when I heard they were going to do a sequel. The first trailer was good and it was cool to see the name Drago at the end. But, seeing Ivan Drago in this trailer was frickin’ awesome. We got a better look at what this sequel will be about. And it looks like it’s going to be even better than the first. I love all the drama and emotion, but it will be the training montage and boxing that will make this movie for me.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: November 16, 2018
The second installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I loved the first one and this looks even better than that one. Now that we have been introduced to everyone, the sequel gets right into the fun & action. Johnny Depp looks great as the villain, and love the choice of Jude Law as Dumbledore. Like the first one, this movie has great SFX and VFX, and the costume/set design is wonderful. This looks like it is going to be one heck of a movie!

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Studio: Sony / Columbia
Release Date: October 12, 2018
sis: Halloween comes to life in a comedy adventure based on R.L. Stine’s 400-million-selling series of books.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. The first one was a pleasant surprise, it was good but not great. After the teaser trailer and this full trailer, the sequel looks like it will be fun but not as good as the original. Glad to see that the little creatures from the first are back, especially the little puppet dude. This is a good family movie that I will enjoy taking my nephew and niece to.

Studio: Universal
Release Date: October 19, 2018
Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love the True Crime look to the beginning of the trailer. So even though there was not much in terms of new footage, it still gets the blood pumping. A lot of it has to do with the score and Halloween theme, that really heightens the tension. This is just a few weeks away and I cannot wait!

If Beale Street Could Talk

Studio: Annapurna
Release Date: November 30, 2018
A woman in Harlem desperately scrambles to prove her fiancé innocent of a crime while carrying their first child.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I thought the first trailer was great but this really takes it to the next level. I love how this trailer showcased more of the romance and family part of the story. It really enhances the drama and emotional aspect of the movie and makes the situation even more tragic. There are a lot of great performances in this as well, so this is definitely going to be up for some Best Picture considerations.

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: November 21, 2018
Six years after the events of “Wreck-It Ralph”, Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like the first one and so far this movie looks like it might not be as good as that one. It does seem like a rehash of the first one with the Internet replacing the Game World. But, I do love all those cameos that have throughout. The SFX still looks good and there is a lot of humor and action to keep the kiddies entertained.

The Oath (Red-band)

Studio: Roadside Attractions
Release Date: October 12, 2018
In a politically divided America, a man struggles to make it through the Thanksgiving holiday without destroying his family.

Anticipation Factor: LOW. Wow, this looks like all kinds of stupid. Even though it resonances with things happening now, it could have been done in a much better way. I do not think there was one thing that I laughed about. It seems like a shame to waste two good comedic talents like Ike and Tiffany. This is a movie that is a HARD pass for me.

Studio: Magnolia Pictures
Release Date: December 5, 2018
Tyrel, a sole black man, attends an otherwise all-white weekend of drunken bro debauchery on a birthday trip to a cabin in the Catskills.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am liking the wave of movies dealing with racial issues that have been coming out since last year’s Get Out. They have not only been well-done but thought provoking. But, this movie I am not sure what to make of it. It is a combination of that and the Hangover maybe. It does looks interesting, so let’s hope the next trailer clears things up more.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: February 14, 2019
Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have enjoyed the X-Men movies, despite the fact that they have messed up a lot of its history of their characters. This looks better than the previous Apocalypse but not First Class or Days Of Future Past. The Dark Phoenix is a great comic book storyline but the movie adaption seems just ok. The trailer does not show too much in terms of SFX, Mutant Powers, or Action Sequences. But, it does give us our first look at the beginning of the next trilogy of X-Men movies.
