Cocktails and Movies and Trailers, Oh My! Thursday Trailer Tap
Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing how Thor: Ragnarok took the box office for a 2nd straight week! Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share movie trailers with you. Now that the summer season is a distant image in our rear-view mirror, we have gotten a lot more movie trailers to view for this week’s The Thursday Trailer Tap

It appears we have another week with just a small number of movie trailers. But, the ones we have are definitely pretty good. This week we have TWO trailers we are seeing for the first time and FOUR new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers with the return of our favorite foul-mouth inappropriate mutant, a neanderthal animated movie, friends play a game they realize is not a game, a U.S. solider transports an Indian chief back home, a musical based on P.T. Barnum, and a cleaning lady befriends a U.S. Top Secret Project!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have SIX new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Deadpool 2

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: June 1, 2018
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I like this teaser trailer a lot even though we did not get to see much of the new movie. This teaser shows that the craziness we got from the first movie and the Deadpool social media posts are back for the sequel. There are a few scenes but nothing to get too excited about, hence the Medium-High A.I. instead of a HIGH one. I can not wait to see what a full trailer shows us, hopefully our first good look at Cable!

Early Man

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: February 16, 2018
Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am a big fan of the Wallace & Gromit series and their clay stop-motion animation. This movie takes that type of animation up to the next level. The characters in this are interesting and funny, which helps make for a good story. I love how they choose a non-violent method to resolve their problems, which is a good lesson for kids and also allows them to get into the theatres to see it.

Game Night

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: March 2, 2018
A group of friends who meet regularly for game nights find themselves trying to solve a murder mystery.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks like it might have the potential to be a surprise comedy hit. I love how the brother is explaining the rules and everyone things what is happening is part of the game. Only once they start playing do they realize something is not what it seems. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams have good chemistry and great as the lead couple. Although, I wish they could have had more well-known actors as their friends. Regardless of that the movie was still pretty funny and I can not wait to see what the next trailer shows us.

Studio: Entertainment Studios
Release Date: December 22, 2017
In 1892, a legendary Army captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have been a big fan of westerns since I was a little kid. So I am glad to see that there has been a small renaissance of Westerns these last number of years. Christian Bale looks great, and he has a good supporting cast in Ben Foster, Wes Studi, Rosamund Pike, and Jesse Plemons. The story is good and the cinematography is beautifully shot. But, it is the anticipation of the violence and action that awaits from director Scott Cooper that has my interest piqued.

The Greatest Showman

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: December 20, 2017
Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am not a fan of musicals, which is why I am torn between giving this a higher A.I. rating that I did. The story looks very interesting, especially the sub-plot of breaking together that are shunned and laughed at by the public. There are a lot of wonderful dramatic and emotional moments, but it is the singing and dancing that I do not care too much for. I would probably recommend it to people though, despite the fact that I would not watch it.

The Shape Of Water

Studio: Fox Searchlight
Release Date: December 1, 2017
An other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment.

Anticipation Factor: VERY HIGH. They certainly saved the best trailer for last. I was already so hyped about this movie. Now they give us a taste of the  creature “heist” and the sub-plot of Cold War espionage to take it to another level. Guillermo Del Toro has created a masterpiece if I might say so now. A beautiful story, romance, action, SFX, drama, suspense, thriller, this movie has practically everything in it. This definitely has award nomination potential written all over it.
