Cocktailsandmovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap

Let us share movie trailers with you. Now that the summer season is a distant image in our rear-view mirror, we have gotten a lot more movie trailers to view for this week’s The Thursday Trailer Tap

This week we may have just a few movie trailer, but they are some good ones. This week we have THREE trailers we are seeing for the first time and THREE new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers about the latest Japanese anime classic to hit the big screen, a team of women go to investigate an unearthly phenomenon, a story about a boy and his horse, life in 2045, a NY Times Best Seller about life in 2045 hits the big screen, the finale to The Maze Runner series, and the story about the real life Paris Train Hostage situation!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have SIX new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Alita: Battle Angel

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: July 20, 2018
Synopsis:
An action-packed story of one young woman’s journey to discover the truth of who she is and her fight to change the world.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. The latest attempt by Hollywood to bring an anime classic to the big screen. This looks like a lot better adaption then the Ghost In The Shell, although the trailer for that was good as well. I like this first look, they seem to lay all the groundwork for those that have not seen the anime classic. The world they created looks great, the SFX look amazing, as do the characters. The one thing that bothers me is the huge cgi-created eyes, they are so over-exaggerated that they make the character look so fake. I hope the next trailer shows a lot more of the story. Either way, I am excited for this.

Annihilation

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: February 23, 2018
Synopsis:
A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don’t apply.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This is the sophomoric directorial effort of Alex Garland. He has written a number of good movies, but it is the realm of science fiction where I think he is at his best. The story looks good with a lot of suspense and mystery. This is a story we have seen before but it’s the use of an all-female team that could lead to some interesting moments. They are lead by Natalie Portman, who always is impressive and looks to add to her impressive resume. The SFX and action sequences look pretty good, so it will be exciting to see what the next trailer shows us.

Lean On Pete

Studio: Film4
Release Date: March 30, 2018
Synopsis:
A teenager gets a summer job working for a horse trainer and befriends the fading racehorse, Lean on Pete.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I like a good horse movie and this is something a little different than ones I have seen recently. It has got that little boy and his dog dynamic to it. The story looks like it is going to be quite emotional and dramatic. The actors look good, and the cinematography is beautiful to it. It will be interesting to see what happens in the third act.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: January 26, 2018
Synopsis:
Young hero Thomas embarks on a mission to find a cure for a deadly disease known as the “Flare”.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like it will be a good finale to The Maze Runner series. The series started off great but the 2nd movie in the series was slightly disappointing. But, from what I’ve seen of this trailer, there is a good amount of action & adventure. It does have that evil government authority much like we have seen in The Hunger Games and the Divergent series. I would have loved to see them return back to the Maze theme and end it like that. I am still looking forward to the finale though.

Ready Player One

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: March 30, 2018
Synopsis:
When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune. Wade Watts finds the first clue and starts a race for the Egg.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH.  I liked the first trailer and love this one even more. The latest trailer gives us more information about the world of 2045, more about our hero Wade Watts, and what the movie is all about. Not only do we get more 80’s & 90’s pop icon references but we also get some killer 80’s & 90’s music as well which I love. The SFX look amazing and I especially love the OASIS Virtual Reality World. I can not wait for the next trailer to hit and even more so for the movie to get here.

The 15:17 To Paris

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: February 9, 2018
Synopsis:
American soldiers discover a terrorist plot on a Paris-bound train.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am a huge fan of Clint Eastwood since I was a kid. I think he is a great director and have enjoyed the movie he has created. He has been on a roll with these last five movies based on real-life people. He has such a distinctive style to his movies, which is simple but with lots of emotion & drama with an interesting storyline and characters. And his latest movie, seems to have all that and more. The one thing that prevents this from having a higher A.F. rating is the fact that he uses the real-life heroes as themselves in the movie. It’s risky since they have no acting experience. But, I trust in Clint and am looking forward to this.
