I am better this week but still battling a wicked cough, but strong enough to put out a new article, albeit a day late. This week we have NINE trailers we are seeing for the first time and TWO new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers about a Kennedy cover-up, cops battling robbers in L.A., a prehistoric caveman animated movie, two sisters coming together over a medical crisis, three ladies band together to turn their lives around, a musical brought to the big screen gets a sequel/prequel, parents are trying to kill their kids, a post-apocalyptic world where cities are trying to survive, an all-female crew trying to heist the MET Gala, a remake of a 80’s comedy, and a sequel to a movie about the government war on the cartel!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have ELEVEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Chappaquiddick

Studio: Entertainment Studios
Release Date: April 6, 2018
Synopsis:
Ted Kennedy’s life and political career become derailed after he is involved in a fatal 1969 car accident that claims the life of a young campaign strategist, Mary Jo Kopechne.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This is a good first trailer for this movie. I love a movie based on true people and true events. I always enjoy learning more behind the scenes moments that the public was not privy to. There is going to be a lot to get upset about in this movie I can already tell. The misuse of power, money, and elite status to get out of a legal situation always makes me angry but also makes for a good movie. This looks like it has a good ensemble cast, but I am more interested in seeing Jason Clarke in a more dramatic/emotional role than we usually see him in.

Den Of Thieves

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date: January 19, 2018
Synopsis:
A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This final trailer did not disappoint one bit. It showed some good action sequences as well as good character moments for both the cops and robbers. I am loving characters on both sides, it looks like we are going to get some equally imposing figures on both sides. This reminds me of Heat, but without the big names. It is going to be interesting to see who survives and how that final heist goes down.

Early Man

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: February 16, 2018
Synopsis:
Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. As I have before, I’m a Wallace & Gromit fan. So I am excited to see this movie. Although, we did not get much new footage, what we did get was funny. I know this is not a popular type of animation, but I love clay-mation stop motion animation. Also, this is a good movie for kids, as it shows them fighting is not the only solution to solving problems.

Euphoria

Studio: SF Studios
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
Sisters in conflict travelling through Europe toward a mystery destination.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This looks like this is going to be an emotional and dramatic downer of a film. I like the two actresses, Eva Green and Alicia Vikander, so it has the potential to be well done. Charlotte Rampling is also a very good actress and will be a good supporting character. The story looks pretty bleak but will have an interesting sisterly conflicts and past to deal with. I hold off on a higher A.F. rating for the next trailer when we see a little more about the storyline.

Half Magic

Studio: Momentum Films
Release Date: TBA
Synopsis:
Explores themes of female empowerment through sex, work, and friendship. These women are able to come together through their frustration over male dominance and in fact use their newly formed sisterhood to lean on each other and understand that they must first learn to love themselves before doing anything else.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie trailer. I was expecting much less but it looks like a good movie about single women banding together to change their lives. It kinda of reminds me of Bad Moms, but will less raunch and no kids. It is rare for me to enjoy all the main characters in a comedy but I like all three ladies. I wish they had better male counterparts to work off, but it still looks like it is going to be a lot of fun.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Studio: Universal
Release Date: July 20, 2018
Synopsis:
In this sequel to Mamma Mia! Sophie learns about her mother’s past while pregnant.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Another movie with a good first look trailer. I am not a fan of musicals but I did see this first one and I enjoyed it. This sequel looks like it has some of the same magic that the first one had. I am loving the fact that this sequel is also a prequel with a look at all the characters during their younger years. Not only is all the original cast back, but we get Lily James, who has been on a roll with her movie roles the last few years.

Mom And Dad

Studio: Momentum Pictures
Release Date: January 19, 2018
Synopsis:
A teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.

Anticipation Factor: LOW. This has got straight to DVD or online service provider written all over it. This movie reminds me of a zombie movie with the parents substituting as the undead. It could be interesting to see how parents take out their kids and hope it is not just all about Nick Cage and Selma Blair trying to kill their kids. It will be interesting to see how the grandparents factor in, since the kids parents are their children. Hmmm … did I just ruin the final act?

Mortal Engines

Studio: Universal
Release Date: December 14, 2018
Synopsis:
Many years after the “Sixty Minute War,” cities survive a now desolate Earth by moving around on giant wheels attacking and devouring smaller towns to replenish their resources.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I am a big fan of anything Peter Jackson is involved in. I love movies that are set in a post-apocalyptic world. Not only the storyline interesting but rather plausible. It has that Mad Max feel to it, but taken to another level. I am excited about this movie, even though this was just a teaser trailer. I am excited to see what a full movie trailer will show us.

Ocean’s 8

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: June 8, 2018
Synopsis:
Debbie Ocean gathers a crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I am on the fence about this movie. I am a fan of Sandra Bullock but I do not like her character in this one, she looks like she is trying to hard to be like her brother. I do like Cate Blanchett‘s and Helen Bohnam Carter‘s characters, but everyone else is not that good. The only thing that can save this movie is how the caper is put together and carried out. It has the potential to be better, so let’s hope the next trailer shows us that.

Overboard

Studio: Lionsgate
Release Date: April 20, 2018
Synopsis:
A spoiled, wealthy yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. A remake of the 1987 comedy.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. Why? I do not see why Hollywood is remaking so many comedies from the past. The original Overboard was good but this remake looks like a pale imitation of that. There is no much chemistry between the two leads in Anna Farris and Eugenio Derbez. Both of them are pretty funny in their previous movies but do not mesh well together in this. I am hoping that the next trailer is a lot funnier than this.

Sicario 2: Soldado

Studio: Sony/Columbia
Release Date: June 29, 2018
Synopsis:
The drug war on the US-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am a big fan of the first Sicario. That had a good storyline with great characters that showed a behind the scenes look at the war on drugs. This first look at the sequel looks like it might be better than the first. I am excited to see Benicio del Toro get “turned loose” by Josh Brolin. They were the two best characters in the first, and to see them together again and taking the war to the cartels to the next level was got me excited to see more.
