Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 03/02/18

Wishes and a pretty bird vie for Black Panther’s throne in a light weekend

Whaddya Got on Tap 2.2.18

Black Panther continues to reign at the box office, surpassing even the most optimistic outlooks on it’s box office take. While we think that it has yet another $50 million box office weekend, there are a lot of movies coming out in the next month and next 90 days that will have all our money.

This week, it’s a return to the 70’s and 80’s as we return to Cold War Era spy movies and a reboot of a violent anti-violence movie that made a house hold name of Charles Bronson. So, let’s take a look at the weekend and ask you, “Whaddya Got on Tap?”

Let’s see what’s new this week:

Just two wide releases for this week.

Death Wish

Distributor: MGM
Director: Eli Roth
Cast: Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Dean Norris, Kimberly Elise, and Mike Epps
Rating: R
Run Time: 107 mins

Official Synopsis: A family man becomes a vigilante killing machine when his family is violently attacked by robbers.’s Take: It’s hard to see this one hitting any notes in this current political climate. Bruce Willis might make this a top 5 for a week, but this looks like a huge miss.

Red Sparrow

Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Director: Francis Lawrence
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jeremy Irons
Rating: R
Run Time: 139 mins

Official Synopsis: Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.’s Take: Hmmm, another one of those movies that is going to be good, but maybe not great.

Duwayne’s Pick: Red Sparrow! Normally it would have been a tougher decision to make. But, I had an early screening to Death Wish last year. Not as good as the original but enjoyable. I am a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence and been enjoying the recent works of Joel Edgerton & Matthias Schoenaerts. The trailers have been great and I love not only spy movies but movies where someone is trained to be a soldier or covert operative. This should be a lot of fun.

Tim’s Pick: It’s going to be rainy this weekend, so it may be a double feature. But, we are behind on Game Night, so the other one will have to be Death Wish just for Bruce Willis.

The Weekend Top Five:

1. Black Panther – Long live the king! Look for another $50 – $60 million
Estimated Weekend: $57 million

2. Death Wish – I think that morbidity and the NRA will be out in force at the movies this weekend
Estimated Weekend: $22 million

3. Red Sparrow  –  a close third here
Estimated Weekend: $21 million

4. Game Night  – quietly sticking around
Estimated Weekend: $8 million

5.  Peter Rabbit  – despite peanut allergy-gate, this will still be in the five slot
Estimated Weekend: $6 million
