Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 09/01/17

by Tim Barley and Duwayne Tso

Summer 2017 Comes Ends With, What Else, A Whimper Tulip Fever

Well, we’ve made it to the end of summer. And we are probably as glad as the studios are that this horrible box office summer is over. We’ll be talking about it next week, and asking why this was the worst box office summer in 25 years. But, for now, we’ll talk about this week’s offerings. All one of them. So, this will be short.  If this box office weekend top ten reaches a total of $75 million, we’ll be surprised. (side note: close Encounters of the Third Kind DOES open in re-release in 900 theaters)

Let’s see what’s new this week as we ask “Whaddya Got on Tap?”

Just one new wide releases for this week.

Duwayne’s Pick: Tulip Fever! It’s a pretty easy choice to make when there is only one wide release to choose from. Notwithstanding that I was already looking forward to seeing this movie. The cast for this looks great, Alicia Vikander has been churning out great performances since Ex Machina and Christoph Waltz is always great playing the big bad. I liked Justin Chadwick’s other period piece he did called The Other Boleyn Girl, and this movie captures the look and field of the time. Can’t wait to see if these two kids make it or not.

Tim’s Pick: Wisconsin Badger football returns tonight and then it’s a weekend of just chilling.
