Whaddya Got On Tap? – Week of 09/15/17

By Tim Barley, Mike Reyes, and Duwayne Tso

mother! and American Assassin try to break the Pennywise stranglehold whaddya got on tap 9.15.17

After last week’s record shattering start to IT, we’re kind of wondering why anyone new decided to show up to the dance this weekend? But, as you already know dear Mixers, when there’s a reigning champ high on the hog, there’s always at least one gunning for its defeat. And, as luck would have it, this week has two competitors in the mix for box office supremacy. One is a paperback right off of the local bookstore’s shelf, and the other is… well, kind of like that, albeit for different reasons altogether. But only one can be the victor of the newcomers, and quite possible the ruler of the box office. Let’s find out what we’ve got headed our way as we ask you every Friday, “Whaddya Got On Tap?”

There’s only two new wide releases this weekend, so let’s take a look at what we’re dealing with.

Duwayne’s Pick: American Assassin! It was a real tough decision this week as I am a big Darren Aronofsky fan. But, from the first trailer American Assassin has been crazy good. Great characters, good storyline, and action galore. I think that this has the potential to be the next big Jason Bourne franchise series.

Mike’s Pick: mother! hands down, and I’ve already seen it twice. Darren Aronofsky has made a movie that is not easy, but definitely rewarding for the audience that wants a challenge. Even the trailers have this film sold as something almost completely different. Rife with symbolism and amazing performances, it’s something that needs to be experienced and discussed.

Tim’s Pick: Popcorn and cocktails as I take in American Assassin.
