Daddy’s Home looks to unset Thor and company

We’re almost halfway into November, Mixers, and Hollywood already wants us to think snow. A Bad Mom’s Christmas came our way last week, and now its spiritual twin, Daddy’s Home 2, has caught a sleigh ride of its own into theaters. Those two holiday offerings, along with Kenneth Branagh’s revamp of Murder on the Orient Express will heat up the competition with some chilly scenery. But can Thor: Ragnarok really be ousted from its regal throne in 1st place? Let’s tap in to what we’ve got coming this weekend, and find out.

Just two new wide releases for all to enjoy this week.

Daddy’s Home 2

Distributor: Paramount
Director: Sean Anders
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell, Mel Gibson, John Litigow, Linda Cardellini, Alessandra Ambrosio, and John Cena
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 100 mins

Official Synopsis: Brad and Dusty must deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays.’s Take: For as unexpected as this sequel is, there might be just as many unexpected laughs hiding within. Gibson and Lithgow alone have potential to make this one better than the original.

Murder On The Orient Express

Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Michelle Pfeiifer, Daisy Ridley, and Leslie Odom Jr.,
Rating: PG-13
Run Time:  114 mins

Official Synopsis: A lavish train ride unfolds into a stylish & suspenseful mystery. From the novel by Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express tells of thirteen stranded strangers & one man’s race to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.’s Take: It’s a mystery we’ve all heard of, with an ending we all know. And yet, it looks like this could be the fresh take future English students need to supplement their reading.

Duwayne’s Pick: Daddy’s Home 2!1 I liked the first Daddy’s Home and coupled with the fact that we all know the ending for Murder On The Orient Express, made this week’s choice relatively easy. The movie looks funnier than the first one, and I am loving the Dads’ Dads. Mel Gibson and John Lithigow are phenomenal choices. This should be a hilarious time.

Mike’s Pick: Murder on the Orient Express is a priority this weekend. I don’t care if I know the ending, a lush and modern remake of a classic is just what this time of year stands for, and I’m all for it. Though I’ll have to fit it in between catching up with Thor: Ragnarok, and begrudgingly, seeing Daddy’s Home 2 on assignment.

Tim’s Pick: I’ve loved Ferrell and Wahlberg since The Other Guys but it’s Murder for me.
