Logan Not So Lucky As Hitman’s Bodyguard Gets Its Target

Cocktailsandmovies.com monday morning hangover report
Good morning, mixers!

This Summer of 2017 can’t end fast enough for the studios. It’s been quite a misfire for everyone with a few diamonds that shone brightly, such as the wonderful Wonder Woman, the great Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the amazing Spider-man:Homecoming. But, for those three jewels, there were the House‘s, the Baywatch’s and CHiPs. Disney was the huge winner this summer, as it continued to dominate almost every aspect of the film world. At the opposite end of the spectrum was Paramount, which always does poorly in the summer months, but fell short with Baywatch and Transformers: Last Knight (they DID do well overseas, though).

Let’s get this show on the road, as we bring you the Cocktails and Movies Monday Morning Hangover Report.

Before we get into the Report, let’s grab a cocktail and take a look at what transpired this weekend at the box office. It wasn’t great, and a little bit surprising, but I DID do an adequate job of predicting this weekend’s numbers.

  1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard – $21.6 million
  2. Annabelle: Creation – $15.5 million
  3. Logan Lucky – $8.05 million
  4. Dunkirk  – $6.7 million
  5. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature – $5.1 million
  6. The Emoji Movie –$4.3 million
  7. Spiderman: Homecoming  – $4.25 million
  8. Girls Trip – $3.84 million
  9. The Dark Tower  – $3.7 million
  10. Wind River – $3.025 million

— C&M —

MIMOSAS:
Annabelle: Creation – still going strong after a couple of weeks with $64 million in total box office

BLOODY MARYS:
Logan Lucky – how did this misfire?

MIMOSAS:
Dunkirk – $165 million and a great movie at the same time!

BLOODY MARYS:
Disney/Buena Vista – they have over 19% of the box office this year. Cheers!

So, yeah, another quiet weekend at the box office. Apparently, Game of Thrones has kept people at home on Sundays. The rest of the weekend, well, we just can’t fathom why people don’t see the coolness of the theater during the summer. We can deduce that it must be crappy movies. Which, if you look at The Emoji Movie, The Nut Job 2 and others, we can agree with that. But, Summer is almost over and we will be looking at the Fall 2017 movie slate in the next couple weeks as well as preparing our newest venture: a podcast! We’d love to hear what you might like to hear from us on that, so emails us at info@cocktailsandmovies.com with your requests and thoughts.

Well, that’s all from cocktailsandmovies.com this Monday.  Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for cool crap there as well!
