Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails #6: White Russian Egg Cream

By Mike Reyes

On the 6th Day of Cocktails, the Cocktails and Movies resident bartender made for us…

So after Five Irish Golds, Four Blackbirds, Three French Martinis, Two Turtle Doves, and a Cranberry Pear Bellini, we’re back with the 6th day of Christmas Cocktails here at C&M! We’re halfway done! Today is another favorite right out of the Schiller’s Liquor Bar book! Now the sixth day of Christmas has “Six Geese A Laying.”

And what do geese lay? Eggs! What’s Schiller’s partially famous for? Their world renowned Egg Creams! So what better drink to kick back with in the midst of a blizzard than the…

The 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails #3: Three French Martinis

by Mike Reyes

On the third day of my Christmas, my bartender made for me…

Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails French-martiniBonjour, Mixers! Not rain, or snow, or work day, or mail will stop us from plugging along with “The 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails!” (which is actually Day 20 or so of our “30 Holi-DAYS of Cocktails and Movies.) Today’s pick is a favorite of my girlfriend’s mother, as whenever we go to our local brick oven pizza joint she orders up one of these puppies! And let me tell you, this place knows how to mix their drinks. All you have to do is order one on a particularly cold night and you’ll be warm as a gentle fire. So prepare your berets and have some Brie on hand as an amuse bouche* to go with this festive pick.

We don’t have hens around the office, thankfully, so voila, it’s…  the third day of  “Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails,” and we give to you…

The Drink:

Three French Martinis

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/4 oz Chambord® raspberry liqueur
  • 1/4 ozfresh pineapple juice
  • 1 twist lemon peel

Instructions:

  • Pour each of the above into a tall bar glass.
  • Shake with ice.
  • Pour into a cocktail or martini glass, and serve.

Trust me when I tell you, it’s a beaut! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find my French translation notes from High School. Someone’s sent me a rather urgent looking note involving this week’s Take Out Theater column… at least, that’s what I think this note says. Mon dieu!**

*amuse bouche – a bite sized hors d’oeuvres, served at the Chef’s whim, without any ordering from the patrons.

** Mon Dieu – “My God!”

So, here we are in the final stretches of 2013. We’ll have 9 more of these cocktails before taking a break for the final week of the year to recharge our batteries. Please help us grow in 2014! Remember to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, share us with your friends and remember: “Don’t watch bad movies unless you have good cocktails.”

The 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails Cocktail #2: 2 Turtle Doves

by Tim Barley

On the second day of my Christmas, my bartender gave to me…

cocktails and movies 12 days Christmas Cocktails - turtle dovesNow we’re really getting going. You’ve gotten your partridge in a cranberry-pear bellini tree, and now it’s onto day two of the 12 Days of Christmas: Turtle Doves. I really thought I was going to have to search high and low for something similar to turtle doves, but wouldn’t you know it, someone out there has already beaten me to developing a cocktail for this day. Anyway, this one looks like a winner, chock full of all my favorites, vodka and more and more alcohol.

Again, for our purposes at Cocktails and Movies, we’ve commandeered the 12 days and put them BEFORE Christmas to bring you 12 different cocktails that you can share with your loved ones as you sit back and enjoy a film from our “Take Out Theater” selections or enjoy some food and cocktails with friends before a trip to the local cineplex.

So, on the second day of  “Cocktails and Movies 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails,” we give to you…

The 12 Days of Christmas Cocktails Cocktail #1: Pear-Cranberry Bellini

On the first day of my Christmas, my bartender gave to me…

Cocktails and Movies 12 days of Christmas Cocktails - pear cranberry belliniWell, we’re in it now. The home stretch. The final 12 days before Christmas. Traditionally, these days are just mad, hectic dashes to the stores by fathers who have forgotten to do ANY shopping or whose assistants got the wrong Tickle Me Cabbage Patch Lego Sets. The tradition of “The 12 Days of Christmas” began in early Christianity and consisted of the 12 days beginning on Christmas Day and culminated on January 5th. This time is also called “Christmastide.”

For our purposes at Cocktails and Movies, we’ve commandeered the 12 days and put them BEFORE Christmas to bring you 12 different cocktails that you can share with your loved ones as you sit back and enjoy a film from our “Take Out Theater” selections or enjoy some food and cocktails with friends before a trip to the local cineplex.
