Trailer Tap Trailers

Welcome to CocktailsandMovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap!

Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing about who is going to win the Democratic and Republican nomations? Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share something new with you.

Happy Thursday, Mixers! Every Thursday, CocktailsandMovies.com is here to help you get through one more day of the work week. The Thursday Trailer Tap is here with new movie trailers, letting you pencil in some movies to watch in 2016.

I normally see a great deal of movie trailers when I go to the movies every weekend. However, they are typically the big studio movie trailers unless I am at one of the many smaller art-house theatres that I often frequent. So I kind of knew what to expect when I took this assignment at CocktailsandMovies.com. However, the number of trailers I see now is much more than I expected. Which is good since it has increased my love for the cinema and gets me more excited about upcoming films. These last few weeks have been an excellent example of why. This is yet another week with so many movie trailers that hit on so many different movie genres. If one or two of the movies does not appease your movie palette, then a cocktail or two might be the remedy. Lol. So while El Jefe is mixing himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months! I have EIGHT new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Finding Dory FindingDory

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: June 17, 2016
Synopsis:
The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.

Anticipation Factor: Medium. I never saw the first one so I’m not all that excited to see the sequel. However, as usual with Pixar, their animation for this movie is top-notch! And it has a storyline that will resonate with kids of all ages. It looks like Pixar has another big winner this summer!

Captain America: Civil War  CaptainAmericaCivilWar

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date: May 6, 2016
Synopsis:
Political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.

Anticipation Factor: Very High!  This is the 2nd most anticipated movie of 2016 for me. I have been enjoying the MCU movies, especially the Captain America ones. I was worried that the Civil War comic would not translate well onto the big screen. But, it looks awesome. This last trailer showcases more of the dissension between Captain America and Iron Man.  The fight scenes were great too, particularly getting to see the Black Panther in action. The coolest part of the trailer was the first look at Spider-Man!

Ghostbusters Ghostbusters

Studio: Sony/Columbia
Release Date:
July 15, 2016
Synopsis:
A paranormal researcher, a physicist, a nuclear engineer and a subway worker try to rid New York of ghosts that can possess humans.

Anticipation Factor: Medium. It’s a good but not great trailer. It definitely gives everyone an idea of what this new all-female Ghostbusters movie is going to be like. I’m not particularly sold on the comedy of it but everything else seems good. The SFX, characters, and storyline seem good. This trailer should help silence a few of the haters and doubters out there that the ladies could not pull it off.

High Rise (Red-Band) High Rise

Studio: Recorded Picture Company
Release Date:
April 28, 2016
Synopsis:
Life for the residents of a tower block begins to run out of control.

Anticipation Factor: Medium-high. I love seeing these kinds of movies about society classes. It’s refreshing to see the less privileged people having had enough and rebelling against the upper class snobby elites. This movie has a pretty good ensemble cast as well and an interesting story lines for them.  Can’t wait to see this one!

Nina Nina

Studio: Ealing Studios Entertainment
Release Date:
April 22, 2016
Synopsis:
The story of the late jazz musician and classical pianist Nina Simone including her rise to fame and relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson.

Anticipation Factor: Low. The first trailer for this movie does not look very interesting. Not a big fan of the lead actress when she headlines a film, she works better in an ensemble. Also, I can see why people are in an uproar about the “Blackface” makeup that is used. Too me it’s disrupting and I even had to watch the trailer a few times to get a feel for it.

Precious Cargo PreciousCargo

Studio: Emmett Furla Oasis Films
Release Date:
April 22, 2016
Synopsis:
A crime boss tries to make off with loot that belongs to another thief.

Anticipation Factor: Medium. I got mixed feelings about this. It’s got elements that I enjoy, action and criminal taking criminals. But, at times it’s got that VOD or Straight-to-Video feel to it. Can’t believe that Bruce Willis is part of it. Only because of him, I have an interest in seeing this one.

– C&M-

Rio, I Love You RioILoveYou

Studio: Conspiracao Filmes
Release Date:
April 15, 2016
Synopsis:
A series of short films set in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Anticipation Factor: Medium. I love movies that not only have multiple story lines but also multiple directors doing each one. All the stories seem to have good story lines about love lost with good actors. Coupled with the beautiful scenery and it looks to be a feel good movie. Seeing this trailer reminded me of my trip to Rio de Janiero, so I might be a bit biased though.

The Man Who Knew Infinity TheManWhoKnewInfinity

Studio: IFC
Release Date:
April 29, 2016
Synopsis:
Growing up poor in Madras, India, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar earns admittance to Cambridge University during WWI, where he becomes a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor, G.H. Hardy.

Anticipation Factor: Medium. This was a good first trailer and it definitely shows some potential. Dev Patel movie choices have been hit and miss lately. But, pairing him with Jeremy Irons is looking like a great combination. I loved Mathematics when I was in school, so a Bio-pic about a Mathematics genius has gotten my scientific calculator all worked up!

The Meddler TheMeddler

Studio: Sony Classics
Release Date:
April 22, 2016
Synopsis:
An aging widow from New York City follows her daughter to Los Angeles in hopes of starting a new life after her husband passes away.

Anticipation Factor: Medium-high. The trailer for this movie was pretty darn funny. Not only does it have good characters and storyline but it has a nice range of emotions from happy to sad. Susan Sarandon has been trying a lot of different types of roles lately, with this one being possibly being the best of the bunch.

Anticipation Factor:  High. Besides The Hunger Game movies, The Divergent Series are the best movie adaptions of young adult book series we have seen. Great story, good characters and lots of twists and turns have made the first two movies enjoyable.  I’m expecting more of the same.

Finding DoryFindingDory

Release Date: June 17, 2016
Concept: The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the true meaning of family along the way.
Presentation/SpoilersPixar does it again! They seem to constantly create a lot of beautifully animated movies with such wonderful characters and great stories.  The sequel seems to have created the magic and feel of one of Pixar’s early and most beloved animated movies, Finding Nemo.

Anticipation Factor:  High. It’s only been within the last 10 years, that I have begun to enjoy the computer-animated movies of today.  I’ve never seen Finding Nemo in its entirety, but have seen bits and pieces which I have enjoyed.  So I’m looking forward to taking my nephew & niece to this.

RaceRace

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: February 19, 2016
Concept: Jesse Owens’ quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.
Presentation/SpoilersThe true story of Jesse Owens from his early beginning as a runner to Olympic competition against Nazi Germany in 1936. This movie is an inspiring drama about one’s man courage and determination against racism at home and Aryan supremacy abroad on his way to becoming an Olympic legend.

Anticipation Factor:  High. I love biopics so I might be a bit biased.  The film industry has produced quite a number of great biopics the last few years, especially ones that have garnished award nominations.  This movie looks like it’s going to have some great drama as well as some great emotional moments.  I love movies that showcase the triumph of the human spirit!

The Danish GirlTheDanishGirl

Studio: Focus Features
Release Date: November 27, 2015
Concept: The remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
Presentation/SpoilersThe 2nd trailer goes into more detail about what the movie will be about.  The 1st trailer looked to have award nomination potential and the 2nd trailer just confirms it.  There are glimpses into some great performances by both lead actor and actress.  Lots of emotion and drama in this one, so don’t forget to bring your tissues.

Anticipation Factor:  High. This movie will definitely be part of the award nomination.  I think I have talked about my love for biopics in the previous movie trailer above. This will be another great biopic to add to the short list of movies that have come out so far this year.  It should be well-received as the subject matter has been more prominent in movies and television the last few years.
