Cocktails And Movie’s Flicks To Pick – 3/14/14

BY TIM BARLEY AND MIKE REYES

This week at Cocktails and Movies: Cars, Cat Fights, and Criminals & Consierges!

Cocktails and Movies Flicks to Pick 3.14.14Hey Mixers! Happy Friday to you one and all. Last weekend saw set ups and upsets as Son of God managed a miracle, rising to a second place finish. Sorry, Jesus. Today’s audiences pray to the altar that is Liam Neeson, who  gave himself another hyperbolic nickname as Non Stop proved to be exactly as the title said (at least in its box office placing… the reviews have been less than forgiving). It wasn’t a very challenging weekend, but it was an effective victory for two films that knew their audience.

This week at Cocktails and Movies: An Anchorman R(ecut), Nonstop Neeson, and the Son of God

Cocktails and Movies Flicks to pickOh, yeah and the Oscars are this weekend. Yes, even with a storm in LA that will give us more rain in three days than we had in the last two years, they will put on a show where people will get all dressed up and then congratulate each other about who good they are. Of course we are not invited to all the hullabaloo, BUT senior writer Mike Reyes and Overlord Tim Barley will be tweeting @cocktailsmovies all evening long. And yet there are some new movies that are coming out this weekend, including another action from 61 year-old Liam Neeson, and Paramount looks to release the correct version of Anchorman with an extended R-rated cut of the movie for a week. It looks like this is the weekend that The LEGO Movie has met it’s match by another movie with Neeson in it.

Let’s see what’s the what:

This week: Who threatens The LEGO Movie – Volcanoes or Terrorists?

Flicks to Pick 2.21.14

Do you hear that sound, Mixers? That’s the sound of our East Coast gang preparing to take their seats for our first East Coast event of the year! AMC Theaters’ Best Picture Showcase is upon us once more, and the Eastern branch is going out to evaluate this year’s crop of “Best” pictures. It’s not all Prestige this weekend though, as two possible crowd pleasers are aiming to take the crown from everyone’s favorite kid’s movie since Frozen, The LEGO Movie. Something for children, something for grown-ups, something for everyone in today’s Flicks To Pick. Still, look for the huge word-of-mouth BLOCK-buster to remain at number one this weekend.

This week: Something for everyone. So, drink up!

Flicks to Pick 2.7.14

It looks like this will be the first big weekend at the box office for 2014, and the first weekend in a while when a film has a chance to knock Ride Along off its perch. There’s something for everyone, no Super Bowl and it looks like the weather is finally going to cooperate. For you West Coasters, we’ll be enjoying some cocktails at Jackson’s Food and Drink and the Arclight Beach Cities for Monuments Men. So come join us. See our Facebook page for more details. For the East Coast – stay warm. Like inside a theater, with your flask, enjoying friends, popcorn, soda and a great movie! And stay tuned, next week, we’ll be celebrating love, breakups and the search for love using beer goggles with something special for you all!

This week: two love stories; you’ll laugh, you’ll cry

Cocktails and Movies Flicks to Pick 1.31.14Welcome to another edition of #FlicksToPick, which is late because we can stop drinking to mask the pain of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor… Sorry, but while we’re optimistic that it might just be a stroke of genius reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s casting as The Joker, we’re still a little pessimistic that this is the direction Zach Snyder has chosen. What happened, did Bryan Cranston become allergic to money all of a sudden, or did you not want to pony up the dough? Anyhow, we’re not here to talk about how LexCorp could be sued by Peter Parker, we’re here to talk about the here and now and  help you decide on what to see at the cineplexes this weekend.
