Red Sparrow soars to number two at the box office

Red sparrow CocktailsandMovies.com monday morning hangover reportWhile the industry patted itself on the back this weekend with the Independent Spirit Awards and The Oscars, a few people went to the movies and enjoyed some quality fare. Two new movies made it to the top two spots in the top three. But, Black Panther continues its run in the number one spot, and we were pretty close to our “Whaddya Got on Tap” projections last Friday. We didn’t give Red Sparrow  much chance, but it did beat Death Wish. Just about everything else stayed the same.

So, let’s take a look at the numbers and get into this morning as we bring you the CocktailsandMovies.com Monday Morning Hangover Report.

50 Shades whips heroes and bunnies

Monday Morning Hangover Report 50 Shades Freed

Well, America, this is what you get. Sure, it’s been a while since we’ve put this together for you. But, this is what you get when you don’t demand more and better from those that run the studios. Not that there is much to see out there. But, why did you all have to go see the last installment of such a bad series of books? And a trilogy of movies that were just awful? There were three new movies in big release last weekend and they all came in #1-3. We’ll get to all that in a minute or two.

Let’s take a look at the number and get into this morning as we bring you the CocktailsandMovies.com Monday Morning Hangover Report.

Good morning, mixers!

This Summer of 2017 can’t end fast enough for the studios. It’s been quite a misfire for everyone with a few diamonds that shone brightly, such as the wonderful Wonder Woman, the great Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the amazing Spider-man:Homecoming. But, for those three jewels, there were the House‘s, the Baywatch’s and CHiPs. Disney was the huge winner this summer, as it continued to dominate almost every aspect of the film world. At the opposite end of the spectrum was Paramount, which always does poorly in the summer months, but fell short with Baywatch and Transformers: Last Knight (they DID do well overseas, though).

Still Wonderful – Wonder Woman Continues to Kick Ass

Wonder Woman Monday Morning Hangover Report
Good morning, mixers!

Well, the fantastic film adaptation of Wonder Woman still rules the box office, as three new challengers last weekend couldn’t defeat Diana Prince and company. The hope was for Tom Cruise’s The Mummy to come out on top, but the movie came in underperforming. The summer box office is off to a slow start, but big movies are slated and we’ll be posting our summer event schedule shortly.

New Movies Can’t Slow Fate. The Circle is Square

Good morning, mixers. Well, America loves the boys who drive really fast cars. Not that there was much competition this weekend.  Each of the newest movies were disappointing, despite ending up in the top five, except for Sleight, which disappointed immensely. So, we’ll give out more Cristal mimosas for the good people over at Universal. There was one big surprise (which I called last Friday), which we will get to later. But, all of this is going to change as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 arrives and will probably take everyone’s money next weekend. It’ll take ours as we host another Cocktails and Movies event, this time at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Come join us!
