Cocktails and Movies “Harrumph Day Cocktail:” Tim’s M Squared C

The things we do in college…

The Rum Diary

It’s getting close, cocktailers. Yes, the days, while hot and humid as hell, are growing slightly cooler and shorter every day as Fall creeps ever closer. And that means school is almost in session. For the college age kids, (and you really should be 21 or over to be on the cocktails portion of Cocktails and Movies), that means making crappy drinks with whatever you can find.

Which brings me to… me. As a junior at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a school KNOWN for its hard partying ways, I worked at a place called The Flamingo, a bar below street level which gave yours truly time to learn to make his own drinks after hours. Some of you know that I used to LOVE rum. Love, love, love rum. And Bacardi was my drink of choice. So plain light rum is great. And anyone can make a rum and coke. But, can you handle a DOUBLE RUM AND COKE? I don’t mean two shots. I mean two TYPES of rum. Well, one night after hours, and needing a caffeine AND a sugar high in order to make it to IHOP to kill a short stack before walking back home, I created the M2C (read “M Squared C”), a rum and coke with Captain Morgan’s and Malibu. With this much sugar, it’s definitely an acquired taste, but I suspect if you blend it, it would be fantastic!

Cocktails and Movies Harrumph Day Cocktail – Lazy Day Colada

Enjoy a lazy day with a movie and a refreshing cocktail

Cocktails and Movies Secret Window lazy

Summer is here in LA, sort of. And we’ve been extremely lazy. (apologies to the staff who have been doing great work, but the boss takes a few days to move into “office mode” when the sun’s out…) We’ve been watching a lot of movies and drinking more than our fair share of cocktails, and since it IS Wednesday, we’re in the mood to find a new cocktail. We’ve found just the right libation to help us through there rest of the week.

This week, as we celebrate CocktailsandMovies.com’s Month of Funny and our look at the funniest movie satires, we wanted to bring you a mid week “Harrumph Day” cocktail that somehow ties into the list of our top ten satires. We shared it with you yesterday and we hoped you liked it. But, we also wanted to do something exciting this week for our “harrumph day” cocktail and, finding a bottle of 151 in the back of the cupboard, we decided to introduce fire to the bar.

The Mid-Week “Harrumph Day” Cocktail – Wassail

by Tim Barley

What the hell is wassail? Let us tell you.

Drinking too much wassail will make you dumb things

For a long time, I loved rum. Rum, rum, rum! It was always a good thing to mix with Coke or Eggnog (remember the Tim’s Film Class Eggnog?). Anyway, times have changed and tastes refined, but rum does come in handy and is popular with my friends still. In this holiday time, I searched for a big recipe of something I haven’t made for a large group of people before and came across Wassail. I have to admit the only time that I have ever heard of wassail in in the Christmas carol “Wassail, Wassail.” Then, I found the recipe.

The Mid Week “Harrumph Day” Cocktail – Summer Sunset

Tim Barley

The sun sets slowly on another summer. One last time to drink a summer cocktail.

Endless SummerCan you believe it? Another summer has come and almost left us. Pretty soon, you won’t have to feel bad missing some sun to enjoy a movie in the theater and drink cocktails. We’ll recap the summer and look forward to the fall next week as we approach the Labor Day holiday, but we have one last summer cocktail to share with you before we all hunker down for Fall and Winter. It’s a little something we found buried in a recipe book back in the days when we drank rum like pirates and the the thought of a sugar-based hangover was just a far off mirage. It’s something we pulled back out of the book, dusted it off and made up a batch. It’s called the “Summer Sunset.”

We also call it this week’s Cocktails and Movies “HarrumphDay Cocktail.”
