Arsenal   arsenal

Studio: Highland Film Group
Release Date: January 6, 2017
Synopsis:
A Southern mobster attempts to rescue his kidnapped brother.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This movie has a direct-to-home feel to it. It’s a little funny that the two well-known actors are the supporting characters, and the two lesser-known actors are the main focus of the movie. From what I’ve seen, the acting is not that impressive and the story line seems a bit crazed and unoriginal.

A Cure For Wellness   acureforwellness

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
February 17, 2017
Synopsis:
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This new trailer does a great job at showing what the movie is about. This time they cut back on the creepy and slightly grotesque images and the plot was revealed. The plot is different than I originally thought. so we will be getting something a little more than a psychological version of Saw at a spa for the rich and privileged.

Blade Runner 2049   bladerunner2049

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: October 6, 2017
Synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This is a great teaser trailer. It looks like this Sci-fi classic sequel is in director Denis Villeneuve‘s highly capable hands. We get a brief glimpse to see the Blade Runner world we know and love from 1982 is back. It’s good to see Ryan Gosling slowly enter and meet up with Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard. That scene gave me goosebumps when he came out of the shadows. I am so excited to see what the first full trailer is going to be like.

Ghost In The Shell    ghostintheshella(International)

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: March 31, 2017
Synopsis:
A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. This movie adaption of the popular Japanese magna animation series exceeds my wildest imagination. They have done an outstanding job of bringing this animation classic into a live action motion picture. The SFX & FX are spectacular, the futuristic society is breathtaking, the sets & costumes are perfect, and the action sequences are outstanding. Much like the Watchmen adaption, it was great to see some of the iconic scenes brought to life!

Going In Style   goinginstyle

Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: April 7, 2017
Synopsis:
Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, three lifelong pals risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This movie has some tough shoes to fill in remaking the George Burn’s classic. It will be interesting to see if this is a re-imagining of the original or a straight remake, at the moment it appears to be the former. I like Morgan, Michael, and Alan but they have a tough task in matching the emotional feel and good nature humor of the original cast.

John Wick: Chapter 2   johnwickchapter2

Studio: Lionsgate / Summit
Release Date:
February 10, 2017
Synopsis:
The continuing adventures of former hitman, John Wick.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. The first John Wick was a movie I loved a lot. I saw the movie a number of times in theatres and it’s a movie that I have recorded on my DVR ready to watch at a moment’s notice. This new trailer show that it has everything that made the first a huge success and takes it up a notch. It appears the dog survives this one, although he losses his house this time to an explosion. I am guessing his wife bought the house for him, which sets up the sequel. Lol.

Silence  (International)silence

Studio: Paramount
Release Date: December 23, 2016
Synopsis:
In the seventeenth century, two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and propagate Christianity.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This international trailer shows us just how much religious intolerance there was in feudal Japan. As well as its repercussions on the priests spreading the word as well as the Japanese who practiced it. I think that Martin Scorsese did a beautiful job creating this movie. I was a little worried about the casting of  Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, but it appears I may have not to worry about the former’s performance based on what I’ve seen.

Snatched  (Red-Band)snatched

Studio: Fox
Release Date: May 12, 2017
Synopsis:
When her boyfriend dumps her, Emily, a spontaneous woman in her 30s, persuades her ultra-cautious mom to accompany her on a vacation to Ecuador. At Emily’s insistence, the pair seek out adventure, but suddenly find themselves kidnapped. When these two very different women are trapped on this wild journey, their bond as mother and daughter is tested and strengthened while they attempt to navigate the jungle and escape.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. On paper this movie seems like a good idea, however I think the casting of Amy Schumer is probably the worst part of the movie. I don’t think much of her performance, she seems to be trying too hard to be funny and that comes off as unnatural on the big screen. I think the only things that were funny were most Goldie Hawn’s scenes and when they are being made fun of.

The Boss Baby   thebabyboss

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
March 31, 2017
Synopsis:
A suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This new trailer helped bump up the anticipation level from my previous review. I like that we got the details for the plot and especially enjoyed the brother time. This movie had many a chuckles from start to finish, so I think we may have another hit from Dreamworks on the horizon.

The Bye Bye Man   thebyebyeman

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date:
January 17, 2017
Synopsis:
Three friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, a mysterious figure they discover is the root cause of the evil behind man’s most unspeakable acts.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. This new trailer makes the titled character not as evil or sinister as previous trailers. It all seemed less dark and scary, more like a Final Destination movie rather than a Nightmare On Elm Street movie. They really need to go back to the tone of the previous trailer or else they may be in for a dismal opening weekend.

The Emoji Movie   theemojimovie

Studio: Columbia
Release Date: August 4, 2017
Synopsis:
Unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. It’s not a very good teaser trailer, but I liked it though. The Meh emoji is perfectly voiced by Steven Wright, which had me laughing. However, children probably won’t like it as much as I did. And if you are having problem with your main target audience that they could spell trouble. I think it’s a novel idea, much like Wreck It Ralph where we got to see what happens inside video games. I hope the next trailer is a lot better.

War One Everyone     waroneveryonea

Studio: Reprisal Films
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
Two corrupt cops in New Mexico set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are. Or is he?

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. It’s about time we get a second trailer, although they cut back on the craziness that I enjoyed about the first trailer. This movie is going to be one of those guilty pleasures movie I enjoy. I am liking the combination of both the leads, they have a different kind of take on rogue cops. I do have my reservations about the villains, because that could make or break this movie.
