Welcome to The Thursday Trailer Tap!

Happy Thursday, Mixers!  Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters?  Stuck at the water cooler hearing about who is going to win Super Bowl 50 … Panthers … Broncos?  Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room?  Let us share something new with you. Every Thursday, CocktailsandMovies.com helps you get through one more day of the work week. The Thursday Trailer Tap is here with new movie trailers, letting you pencil in some more movies to watch in 2016.

Last week was a slow week for movie trailers but this week right before Super Bowl 50, a lot of movies trailers began to debut. These are not the big movie studio movie trailers as those will be part of Super Bowl 50.  But still we got a nice collection of movie trailers from various genres that should appease everyone’s movie palette.  On tap this week, we have movie trailers for life after college, an intense fight for your life, a sequel to the funniest male models movie of all time, a biopic about a jazz legend, an apocalyptic action horror flick, and three animated movies for your little ones.  While El Jefe is writing up his big alcohol shopping list for Super Bowl 50, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back.  So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!  I have EIGHT new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

Get A JobGetAJob

Studio: CBS Films
Release Date:
March 25, 2016
Synopsis: Life after college graduation is not exactly going as planned for Will and Jillian who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. But with help from their family, friends and coworkers they soon discover that the most important (and hilarious) adventures are the ones that we don’t see coming.
Presentation/Spoilers: A comedy about life after college during the tough economic times of today.  It has some good laughs and moments most of us can relate to.
Anticipation Factor:
Medium.  Comedies lately have been hit and miss.  Miles Teller has a good track record with comedies but the story line I have seen many times before.  I’m just wondering if they are going to add something new to it that makes it stand out.

Green RoomGreenRoom

Studio: A24
Release Date:
April 15, 2016
Synopsis: A young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence.
Presentation/Spoilers:  An intense stand-off and fight for life in the woods without no help in sight.  This trailer has a very terrifying vibe to it.  The score and darkness add to that impending doom to make this one chilling trailer.
Anticipation Factor:
High. Although this is probably not a movie for everyone.  It is something that I’m going to enjoy.  I love a good fight for your life kind of movie.  The bad guys, the music, the location and lighting make this movie really stand out for me.  Plus, it will be great to see Patrick Stewart as a bad guy.  Add that the movie has been garnishing great word of mouth on the film festival circuit and they got my money!

Zoolander 2Zoolander2

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
February 12, 2016
Synopsis: Derek and Hansel are modelling again when an opposing company attempts to take them out from the business.
Presentation/Spoilers:  The final trailer showed 50% what we’ve already seen so far but also 50% new material.  I’m still not too sure about this movie.  Will it be a bomb like Dumb and Dumber 2 or a nice sequel like Anchorman 2?
Anticipation Factor:
Medium High.  I was not as interested in the sequel with what I’ve seen but the new material has piqued my interest just a bit more.  I’m loving the teaming of Wiig and Ferrell, that might be the best parts of the movie.  We shall see shortly.

Miles AheadMilesAhead

Studio: Sony Classic
Release Date:
April 1, 2016
Synopsis: An exploration of the life and music of Miles Davis.
Presentation/Spoilers:  The latest biopic movie of a musical legend.  The trailer shows a great performance and spot on look for Don Cheadle.  This looks like it might be even better than the Ray Charles biopic with Jamie Foxx.
Anticipation Factor:
High.  I’m not a big jazz fan but I’m a big biopic fan.  Whether it be a musician, actor, or historical figure, I’m there.  The trailer for this movie got me hooked big time. Don Cheadle’s transformation into Miles Davis is amazing.  He’s got it down pat!  If the movie is as cool and slick as the trailer, we are in for one hell of a ride!

PandemicPandemic

Studio: New Artist Alliance
Release Date:
April 1, 2016
Synopsis: An intense and unique film that features non-stop action from a first person shooter perspective (FPS), putting the audience in the middle of every fight whilst feeling in control of every punch thrown and shot fired. It’s a new model of action thriller for the video game generation.
Presentation/Spoilers: An apocalyptic viral epidemic told from a 1st person shooter perspective like the popular video games of today.  That perspective might make some people sick but it’s a kind of video game I would enjoy, so this might be a guilty pleasure for me.
Anticipation Factor:
Low. These end of the world or virus type movies are not as good as the trailers make them out to be.  Also, I have been burned by the 1st person perspective in a movie before.  It has more of a found footage field to it.  It does appear to have some good action/violence to it, so there may be some hope for it after all.

Ice Age: Collision CourseIceAgeCollisionCourse

Studio: Fox
Release Date:
July 22, 2016
Synopsis: Scrat’s epic pursuit of his elusive acorn catapults him outside of Earth, where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the planet. To save themselves from peril, Manny, Sid, Diego, and the rest of the herd leave their home and embark on a quest.
Presentation/Spoilers: Another sequel in the successful Ice Age series.
Anticipation Factor:
Low.  They are going to need to stop with this series.  This one does not look as good as the previous ones.  The part of the movie dealing with Scrat is funny but the remaining part with the others is not looking that funny or even interesting.  I’m hoping for the end of the characters and that the series gets hit with an asteroid soon!

The Secret Life of PetsTheSecretLifeOfPets

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
July 8, 2016
Synopsis: Taking place in a Manhattan apartment building, Max’s life as a favorite pet is turned upside down, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. They have to put their quarrels behind when they find out that an adorable white bunny named Snowball is building an army of abandoned pets determined to take revenge on all happy-owned pets and their owners.
Presentation/Spoilers:  The 2nd trailer for the movie shows us more about what the actual story is about.  Love the introduction to the characters but I’m more interested now that I have seen more of the storyline.
Anticipation Factor:
High.  This has a lot of things that animal owners can relate to and laugh about.  The kids are going to eat this one up big time.  Universal is going to have another animation hit franchise to add to their collection.

– C&M-

ZootopiaZootopia

Studio: Buena Vista
Release Date:
March 4, 2016
Synopsis: In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a fugitive con artist fox and a rookie bunny cop must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
Presentation/Spoilers:  The next possible hit from Disney.
Anticipation Factor:
Medium.  The animation is top notch and the supporting characters are pretty funny and good.  But, I’m not sure about the two lead characters.  They don’t seem very likeable or funny to me.  The girl bunny kind of reminds me of Bugs Bunny at times.  I’m thinking that this movie might not be the next big hit that Disney is hoping for.
