Welcome to CocktailsandMovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap!

Cocktailsandmovies.com Thursday Trailer Tap
Are you sitting in your cubicle with stacks of TPS reports to go through? Listening to that conference call where everyone is talking at the same time about nothing at all that matters? Stuck at the water cooler hearing how this was one of the worst summer movie seasons! Need something to watch with that flask in your desk and that burned microwave popcorn from the break room? Let us share movie trailers with you.

We finally break our streak of slightly below average number of movie trailers for us to review on The Thursday Trailer Tap. I guess that it was going hand in hand with the less than stellar box office the last few weeks. This week we have FIVE trailers we are seeing for the first time and SIX new trailers for movies we have previewed in the past. This week we have trailers about the return of our favorite Bad Moms, our favorite Dad/Stepdad, a real-life old Hollywood May December romance, a social media horror movie, a gritty western, our favorite paranormal investigators are back, The Creeper returns, a man tries to survive the jungle, a young high school girl tries to figure what to do after she graduates, the early legal career of Thurgood Marshall, and a cop tries to catch a serial killer!

While El Jefe mixes himself another afternoon cocktail, let’s step up to the bar before he comes back. So open your special drawer, fetch that secret stash of booze you’ve got hidden away and come see what will be in store for us moviegoers in the coming months!

I have ELEVEN new trailers for you to sample from our Thursday Trailer Tap!

A Bad Moms Christmas (Red-band)

Studio: STX Entertainment
Release Date:
November 3, 2017
Synopsis:
Amy, Carla, and Kiki struggle to cope when their respective mothers visit for the holidays.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. One of the surprise hit comedies of 2016 is back with a sequel. The Bad Moms are back and take it to another level in terms of crazy antics and inappropriate mom behavior. The stress they went through is nothing compared to dealing with the holidays, so that should be fun to see. I am loving the addition of the Bad Moms‘ mothers to the mix. The casting of their respective mothers are pretty spot on. This movie should be just as good or maybe even better than the original.

Daddy’s Home 2

Studio: Paramount
Release Date:
November 10, 2017
Synopsis:
Brad and Dusty must deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. It’s back to back bad parents movies this week. I liked the first Daddy’s Home and this sequel might be better than the first. I love the fact that the Dad/Step-dad rivalry is back for the sequel, that provided some of the best parts of the first. Plus, I am loving the addition of Mel Gibson and John Lithgow as the grandfathers. They are excellent choices and have some great comedic moments. This has the potential to be all kinds of good family fun.

Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool

Studio: Eon Productions
Release Date: TBD
Synopsis:
A romance sparks between a young actor and a Hollywood leading lady.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I love movies about old Hollywood but the fact that this is based on a true story is what really won me over. Annette Bening delivers another great performance after her 20th Century Women role. Jamie Bell gives one heck of a performance as her love interest. This could be a role that really gets him notice more as a serious actor. I love the storyline, it has a nice mix of emotion, drama, and of course romance. There is one thing that I did not like and that was the use of the fake backgrounds. Other than that, I think this will be a good movie and I can’t wait to check it out.

Friend Request

Studio: Entertainment Studios
Release Date:
September 22, 2017
Synopsis:
A popular college student graciously accepts a social outcast’s online friend request, but soon finds herself fighting a demonic presence that wants to make her lonely by killing her closest friends.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-LOW. This looks like a slightly better version of the 2014 social media horror movie Unfriended. I am loving the combination of old time evil (witches) and current technology (social media). The first trailer was a lot better and scarier. This new trailer focuses more on the victim and some of the perils befalling her and her friends. It is not as scary as the first trailer but it does still show that this could potentially be a good little horror movie.

Hostiles

Studio: Waypoint Entertainment
Release Date:
TBD
Synopsis:
In 1892, a legendary Army captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.

Anticipation Factor: HIGH. I am a big fan of Scott Cooper and the movies he has directed. He has an interesting directing style and churns out some emotional and dark movies. With his last two being also quite violent. That style is best suited for a western and his latest looks awesome. It’s great to see him reunited with his Out Of The Furnace lead Christian Bale. The supporting cast for this looks great as well. The cinematography looks amazing and the landscapes are beautiful. I can not wait for this to get here, hopefully it will be coming out later this year to be in the running for award season.

Insidious: The Last Key

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
January 5, 2018
Synopsis:
Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet – in her own family home.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Insidious movies. They are very well done and do an excellent job of inter-connecting with one another. This latest sequel looks just as good as the first two, and I am loving the focus on Elaine’s younger childhood and her family home. Lin Shaye is great as Elaine, and it’s good to see Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson back as the tech support. The first scene with the key entering the neck was so crazy. I am so looking forward to learning more about the Insidious world.

Jeepers Creepers 3

Studio: Screen Media Films
Release Date:
September 26, 2017
Synopsis:
Sergeant Tubbs assembles a task force hellbent on destroying The Creeper.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. I enjoyed the first but not so much the second Jeeper Creepers. The Creeper has an interesting history and story to him which makes for a good horror villain. What makes the movie good is the victims he is hunting. The first one had some good protagonist but the second did not. I am not sure about that for this latest sequel. But, I will definitely be there to see if the Creeper finally gets what’s coming to him.

Jungle

Studio: Momentum Pictures
Release Date:
October 20, 2017
Synopsis:
A group of friends join a guide for a trek into the Bolivian jungle, searching for an Indian village. The men soon realize that the jungle is a difficult place to be.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM. Finally they have delivered a good trailer. The first two I have seen were not very good. This latest trailer has definitely piqued my interest and raised their A.F. rating. I love a good survival wilderness story and this appears to have a lot of deadly & dangerous situations. I like it more so because I thought the entire group would be going through it but it appears that Daniel Radcliffe will be on his own. Which makes the story even more interesting and we could be in for a good amount of suspense & chills.

Lady Bird

Studio: A24
Release Date:
November 10, 2017
Synopsis:
The adventures of a young woman living in Northern California for a year.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I have been a fan of Saoirse Ronan since Atonement. Despite her young age, she has played in wide variety of different roles and has become quite an actress. This role may possible garnish her some award nominations this year. She gives a great performance with a storyline that a lot of viewers can relate to. The supporting cast is good, but it’s Laurie Metcalf as her mom that really stands out. Their scenes together are mother/daughter gold. This movie is definitely something that I am looking forward to.

Marshall

Studio: Open Road Films
Release Date:
October 13, 2017
Synopsis:
About a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. I love bio-pics and this is definitely going to be a great one. Chadwick Boseman has done a great job of portraying real-life historic figures and that streak continues as Thurgood Marshall. I know most of his later accomplishments so it will be a joy to get to learn about his earlier years. I like the supporting cast for this, particularly Josh Gad who has been stretching his acting wings the last few years. I am a big Law & Order fan, so it will be interesting to see the case unfold in front of our eyes.

The Snowman

Studio: Universal
Release Date:
October 20, 2017
Synopsis:
Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

Anticipation Factor: MEDIUM-HIGH. This looks awesome! This has a lot of things I like in a police crime drama … smart villain, cat and mouse game, and a brilliant introverted cop with problems. Huge fan of Michael Fassbender, and he is the perfect choice for this role. I love the choice of Rebecca Ferguson as his partner, she has been great since she burst on the scene in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. This movie has a good investigative feel to it with lots of suspense and twists & turns. It will be interesting to see if they remain faithful to the book or change it up a bit. I can not wait for this to get here!
