Well, let’s hope we can do better with the box office picks than last weekend. In our rush to get out of the office for a very long weekend, we rushed into thinking that BFG was going to be a box office blockbuster, but it just bombed instead. That meant that Finding Dory ruled the box office again. But, it wasn’t a total loss for the movie houses, as Tarzan and The Purge: Election Year did better than expected. Remember, that you can be part of this weekend prognostication and write for us AND be part of what we are trying to grow. Email us at with your interest.

And now, let’s see what’s new this week.

Just two new wide releases this weekend

Duwayne’s Pick: Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates! I might be in the minority here but I think that Zac Efron has found his calling with these R-rated comedies lately. The first trailer I saw for this movie had me rolling with all the hijinks. Anna Kendrick & Aubrey Plaza look great together in this one.  It’s good to have two sets of friends (males & females) equally as funny in a movie. Can’t wait to get my laugh-on!

Tim’s Pick: I have a soft spot for pets and will take in The Secret Life of Pets soon, but it’s all about the R-rated comedies for me. Like Duwayne, I really can’t wait to see this movie.

The Weekend Top Five:

1. The Secret Life of Pets – finally, it takes another animated movie to remove Dory from the top
Estimated Weekend: $82 million

2. Finding Dory – but don’t look for this movie to drop too low
Estimated Weekend: $30 million

3. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates – taking a chance on an R-Rated comedy to get the 3rd spot
Estimated Weekend: $27 million

4. The Legend of Tarzan – still swinging in the top four
Estimated Weekend: $20 million

5. The Purge: Election Year – kind of hard to pull for this movie in today’s climate, but it’ll stay
